I have a problem with my 7 month old doxie, she has this thing about chewing on her brothers hair. He is a 5 year old springer spaniel. He is very submissive to her, she bites him and he never does anything to her to tell her that is enough. I have tried spraying some bitter apple on the spot where she is chewing but she just moves on to another spot. I don't like using that on him anyway. I have also tried spraying water from a bottle on her and telling her no. Plus I have tried to interest her in other things, toys, etc. She is a very stubborn little girl. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Beemer likes to chew and suck on Harley's ear. It is disgusting to me. He will almost swallow Harley's ear. Harley just lays there and lets him do it. In fact, I just looked down and he was chewing on it now. Yuck. I don't know why. Dogs do the strangest things. LOL

Does she actually chew the hair off or is she just sucking for comfort? Some dogs will tolerate alot from pups younger than themselves as long as they are not being hurt.

I would be concerned that if she is chewing it off that she may swallow it and cause a stomach upset.

As for stopping it all I can suggest is that you remove her from the situation each time you see her doing it,crate her for a short time if needs be,she will soon learn that if she wants to be with everyone else then she needs to stop this behaviour.

Good Luck

Rhona

My puppy doesn't pull the hair off from him, it's almost as if she's grooming him. She pulls on it like she is combing all the rats out of it. She is just so insistent on doing it. I will try the crate thing maybe that will help. Thanks for your suggestions.

Another thing to try is redirecting her attention. When she is doing this get her attention and give her a favorite toy or play fetch. Anything to get her mind off chewing him.

Rusty grabs a hold of Gunther's (schnauzer) whiskers. Gunther ends up swinging around until Rusty falls off.
