Rainy day today, and a restless dachshund.

I guess her rawhides have lost their flavor. No interest in her squeaky toys.

We turned breakfast into a game where I throw each piece of kibble and she runs to find it, til she eats it all.

I've given her kongs full of frozen peanut butter in the past, but she's so methodical and has it gone in an hour or so. And I don't want to refill it and have her on a peanut butter binge.

Any tips on how to entertain a restless dachshund, both for rainy days and for when I'm out?

Thanks.

First - No rawhides!! They are very, very dangerous for dogs. They can choke on them or they can cause an obstruction in the stomach, which can be fatal.

As for easing your dogs restlessness on a rainy day. Take her for a long walk or go to a enclosed dog park (for small dogs) and make sure she gets lots of exercise or play the day before you know it is going to rain.

On the rainy day or when you are gone, hide some yummy safe treats around the house for her to have to hunt out and find. Daschshunds are scent orientated dogs, so she will love this.

Play with her when you get home too.

If she has had enough exercise the day before she should want to rest up on that rainy day.

Thanks Bette, but I'm still trying to come up with more stuff. My place isn't that big, I know that hiding treats would occupy my little squeaker for about 20 minutes.

So beyond exhausting her the day before and hiding treats, any other ideas?
