Weiner, Weener, Wiener which one is right?
Although no one asked me, I thought I would address a subject that I know has been bothering one of our most beloved Hotdog Blog members. Harry, I hope this helps you and your Mum Jutta with your campaign to improve our hoomans' spelling.

Love and sloppy wet wiener dog kisses,

Annabel Lee

OH, and don't think I didn't catch you checking out my BUNS!!!

Harry and his mum Jutta have a few issues with the way some of us spell wiener. Apparently since most of us don't speak the native tongue (German) we've fallen into the habit of spelling wiener all wrong. The correct spelling is WIENER for the capital of Austria which is Wien or Vienna in English. Ever heard of Vienna Sausages?

The incorrect spelling which many of us use "WEINER“ points to an entirely wrong definition for us noble dachshunds. Wein means wine in German and I don't think ANY of us ever want to be accused of WHINING!

I am done being preachy for today!

Go forth and spell WIENER correctly, it should be an integral part of our efforts to T.O.T.W.

Love, Annabel

My hubby peered over my shoulder whilst reading THDB and said "they have spelt weener wrong" I then explained that that is how they spell it, we spell it weener and not weiner.

It got me thinking, which country does weiner originate from? Is it USA or Germany?

Please can you clarify for me. Thanks.

Dear Rose and Poppy and Trixie and your Daddy,

The proper spelling is wiener. The nicname wiener dog for a dachshund is inspired by our long sausage-y shape. These sausages were often called Wiener Sausages as in Vienna (Wien being the capital of Austria)Sausages.

Although we are of German origin the Austrian nic-name wiener dog stuck.

Now where on EARTH did you Brits come up with the spelling weener?

Just asking?

Love and Licks Annabel Lee
