Any help would be appreciated….

Hi everyone. I’ve been corresponding with a woman that was given a miniature silver dapple male because the girl he was with could no longer keep him. The woman that currently has him is only asking for a small adoption fee to cover the food he’s been eating. So she doesn’t seem to want to make money on him. My husband and I (and fids) are so excited to possibly be adopting another dachshund I can hardly contain myself. I believe I have asked the appropriate questions as far as his health, vaccinations, house training, etc. Any help you might be able to give as far as other things I should ask would be appreciated. I’ve never adopted this far from home before. This pup is 8 months old and is 600 miles away from me. He is in Indiana. I am in Michigan. We’ve asked for a photo of the pup. Anything else I should or shouldn’t do? Please help…. Thanks in advance for your comments and help.

Zoe is fro Michigan and I had her flown from there to Florida so if you are flying him check out the airlines. I suggest either Continental or Delta. I think we used continental and they were great. We had her flown in cargo so when we picked her up it was not inside the airport it was a seperate section outside the airport and the temperature in cargo is regulated. So it is not with the baggage on a regular airline flight. They took really good care of Zoe especially since there was a layover. They put her in the office and gave her water and food. She also needs a health certifiacte before flying and a special crate. So that is what you have to know if your flying him.Hard to buy a dog without seeing in person but I did and i am so lucky to have Zoe.
I would ask about the mother and father and if they have any akc records on them if that is important so you.Is he up on his shots. How is his temperment. Can’t think of anything else right now. Good Luck and let us know what happens.

I really think you covered most of the questions. He is so young That if you have children he will adjust and also if you have other pets he will adjust. We are very happy for you and wish you the best. I am glad he is going to a good home.

I agree with Zoe. If possible use Continental. They are definately the best. I believe they fly to Indianapolis, but am not sure. Otherwise, it sounds like you have asked all the right questions

I just got another e-mail from the lady that has Leche.(Pronounced Lay-Chee) It would appear that this young man is from Japan. His papers and shot records are in Japanese. What a trip. The story isn’t adding up though. I still want to get him here but I thought animals had to be quarantined for 6 months. Am I wrong? Does anyone know? This little guy has been through alot already it would seem. I have to make sure all this is legal. Getting worried…..

  8. Comment by sophies mom:

Oh and I goofed…It’s Illinois. Not Indiana.

  9. Comment by heidi & fiona:

I would be worried also. Something doesnt sound right. HAs she sent you any pictures yet?

  10. Comment by Zoe:

I would call your vet and ask him his advice on this one. He should know more than any of us about the quarantine and other matters like the papers and if you need those for the flight. I also would be leary. This is a shame. I hope things go alright for you. It’s hard when you get so excited and then have a let down so keeping my fingers and Zoe her paws crossed this adoption goes on. Good Luck and let us know what happens.

I had this same conversation with Harry from Isle of Wight they say if a dog is sent from another country then they have to put them in quarentine for 6 months it is mandatory law. so did this pup come from another country? Maybe be sure to ask that question. And I agree with Zoe on the airlines, Tootsie was flown from Mississippi to Missouri with a layover in Georgia and she was perfectly fine when I got her. Hope this helps!
