Question about little girl dogs
OK…I’m relatively new to the world of little girl dogs. I’ve only ever had males. Our Sophie is just about 11 months old. She has finished her first heat, has been with no intact male dogs. Our two males (not doxies) have completely left her alone. (Don’t tell anyone but I do believe they are gay.) Anyway, in light of sounding really really dumb here is my question. Sophie has swollen teets like she has produced milk. Is this normal? Will it go away? Could it be a false pregnancy? Do I call the vet? Am I asking too many questions? Haha. Please help.

Hi Sophie, I’m Sadie and I had the same problem after my first heat cycle, about two months after, I started lactating. My human contacted my doctor and they told me it was a false pregnancy and would disappear soon. It did, by the next day, all gone! But if your concerned, have your human call your doctor. It’s normal for the breasts to swell during a heat cycle and for a couple of weeks after, until the hormones level off.

Oscar’s mom had a false pregnancy, she gained weight and got milk. She had a stuffed animal that she thought was her puppy. Finally she started acting normal again, but it took a few weeks.
Hopefully though she wont go through it that bad. If you are concerned you could always just call the vet for advice.

When I was a teenager, our doxie, Heather went through 2-3 false pregnancies. She would produce milk and fiercely guard some of her toys as if they were her pups! And…she never fiercely guarded her real pups when her family (us) were nearby. Her personality changed incredibly when this happened. We would take her to the vet who gave her an injection of some hormone or whatever and this ended her false pregnancy ‘episode’. :s

my Dachshund, Licious, is in her first heat. it was noticed around the 14 of Feb. that was 2 weeks ago. she is now passin a clear fluid and we have a big dog standing guard at our front door (this dog does not belong to me). how much longer will i have to guard her. will all the swelling go away as a sign. i sure do not want puppies this round as she is only 9 months old. we will breed her when she is 2.
