EASTON, Jan. 11
By MARK MULHOLLAND Saratoga-North Country News Chief
An 18-year-old Washington County man is accused of shooting his own dog inside his house and leaving it there for four days.
Police say Richard C. Jenkins of Easton shot and killed his miniature dachshund because it defecated on his floor.
Police say he killed the dog, named Julia, on Jan. 6. The dog’s remains were still inside his Easton apartment when police arrested Jenkins Tuesday night.
Court documents indicate Jenkins shot the dog in front of his 14-year-old neighbor.

January 11, 2006 @ 5:44 pm

January 11, 2006 @ 6:05 pm
OMG, I wish i was the arresting officer!
January 11, 2006 @ 6:14 pm

January 11, 2006 @ 6:16 pm
Heidi & Fiona….Oh how I wish YOU Were the arresting officer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 11, 2006 @ 6:24 pm
So sad!!! At least Julia is in a better place and wont have to live with this horrible kid anymore!!!!! The poor little angel!
January 11, 2006 @ 6:27 pm
The kid needs to be punished, but, also needs psyche treatment, I wonder what his parents or life is like? Does it not scare anyone, the hate and cruelty, he can do this to a child.
Who would sell, who knows?? I have ideas, as far as guns, outlawing does not help, he could have strangled it, or beat it to death. Also, one can obtain gun making kits on line.

That is absolutely terrible. I know that there are people in this world who don’t like animals, but why torture and kill them? Live and let live.
January 11, 2006 @ 6:59 pm
Oh how I wish I would have been the neighbor that found out before the police did. (6) (6) (6)
January 11, 2006 @ 7:00 pm
Hopefully he becomes some big guys girlfriend in jail.
January 11, 2006 @ 7:08 pm
At least he was caught. So many of those horrible people get away with stuff like that. Unfortunately I don’t think the law punishes the offenders as much as they deserve.
January 11, 2006 @ 7:20 pm
How horrible, I don’t know how some people can stand to look at themselves in the mirror. Heidi and Fiona I sure wish your mom had been the arresting officer too!!!!!!!!
January 11, 2006 @ 7:57 pm
Maybe if Heidi & Fiona’s mom would have been the arresting officer the idiot kid might have accidently fallen down a couple flights of stairs on the way to the car! Ooops
January 11, 2006 @ 8:01 pm
Oh this is such a tragedy, a poor innocent loving dog like us, ;( I just can’t bear the thought.
And a note to:
Sandi,
Please don’t let what other bad bad people in this world do make you vindictive, you are a wonderful human to your pets and the ones at the shelter. Don’t give them poor excuse for humans bring a beautiful human down.
Love to all wonderful humans,
Neenya

Okay, I’m gonna say it… If *I* were a cop, I’d do the Los Angeles thing. “BOOM! Wait! Stop! Uh oh…too bad…”
Sorry if I offend anyone, but this #$@*&^% needs to get his butt reamed for this precious little girl’s life.
I mean, didn’t the breeder think that MAYBE there was something wrong with this idiot? Hmmm…maybe not ‘cuz psychos are really good at playing the game.

I can’t even express the anger I feel towards people like this guy!!!! I am really happy that my husband is trying to get on with the state highway patrol!!! Connor, you are not offending me when you say that!!! I totally agree!!!!! Sunny & Daisy, despite the fact that this story is so sad, you made me laugh out loud with the comment about him being some guy’s girlfriend in prison! I know I’m sadistic. I can’t help it though, it breaks my heart to hear stories like this!

Not only do I feel sorry for the dog Julia but for the poor 14 year old who had to witness this awful thing. What a tramatic experience for this poor kid. This guy should have his balls tied up and hung by them. That’s too good for him. . Get a bunch of dogs and let them poop all over him. How about that.
January 12, 2006 @ 12:08 pm
Wow. All I can say is double what everyone has said so far. It’s funny (not haha funny, but wierd funny) how so many of these situations, though, could be stopped by the ending of puppy mills. You guys keep asking what kind of breeder would sell to someone like this!? Well, the truth is probably that he got Julia from a pet store, who are blinded by the right price. They don’t care who the pup ends up with, they just want the money. That’s why they’re in the business they’re in. It could be miniature dachshunds, labrador retrievers, or a lil’ pug-nosed pup. They all have puppy mills, and they will usually end up in homes that have no business owning a dog because they pre-adoption screening that shelters and breeders provide is not present in most pet shops. STOP PUPPY MILLS!

I just wanted to comment on this so that it would be put back on the front page. I think it’s important for everyone to get a chance to read it and think about what it means to the lives of the little boy and girl fur-kids that end up in these situations. ;(
