A story about Olivia’s Blue Bone

[Excerpt]:

I was reading PeeWee’s mystery box dilemma and I thought that I would put this into a blog instead of posting a very large comment.

Oscar will play for a while with his rope toy, but Olivia is a different story when it comes to a fave toy! When we adopted Olivia the lady from the shelter that had been keeping her gave us three stuffed bones. They were all blue with a Frontline ad on the front. One of the bones had already been played with by Olivia. The lady unwrapped a second for Oscar when we got there. She also gave us a paper sack with Olivia’s stuff in it. The third bone was in the sack. Well in about 1 & 1/2 months both the unwrapped bones had been shredded. I unwrapped the third bone and gave it to Livie in November. It is now January and the bone is still intact!!! For Christmas, Olivia got 2 stuffed toys that are the same size as the bone and they were shredded within two days!!! I think she knows that this is her last bone! I had to wash it one time when she was sick and the whole time that the bone was in the wash Olivia would run around the house looking for that bone! That bone is her baby! I let her have it in her kennel when I’m not home so she is entertained. I give Oscar his rope toy during the day. I love how Olivia will root around on the bone and squeak the squeaker nonstop. Then she’ll grab it and throw her head back to toss the bone in the air. She’ll hop over to it and do it again! She is so cute when she plays like this! I am delighted when she does this because Oscar has never done this. He was a breeding dog that probably wasn’t loved the way he is now. My husband and I had to teach him how to play. Now he loves chasing Olivia for that blue bone or any other toy! I am really glad that we got Olivia because Oscar needed a playmate! I hope you guys like my story! I really enjoy reading everyone else’s stories.

Hi! I’m new to this, but I love seeing and hearing about doxies. I grew up with two from when I was 8 y/o and unfortunately had to put them both down in 2005 after 16 1/2 wonderful years with them…

I got my Handsome Man, Hershey, my first year of college… he has a simalar story about his love of stuffed toys (must be a doxie thing). For 3 years it was me and Hershey & his stuffed rainbow ball. Now this ball is the super duper ball of the century because Hershey rips EVERY toy I give him (he’s got some weird objective to destroy stuffed toys but he’s simply a sweet guy). Anyway, Hershey & I went everywhere together with his ball- the car, upstairs, downstairs, outside, parent’s house, etc.- if it was “lost” he would freak. If I washed it he would stand next to the washer the entire time and jump on it (pretty annoying but cute).

Well DappleDoo (DD we call her) came along 3 years later and what did “Miss Alpha Dog” do? THE FIRST NIGHT she took rainbow ball and ripped it open with her little puppy teeth. I was so upset I even tried to sew it back together(now you must know I’m not a domestic engineer by any means). I was unsuccessful in my attempts and Hershey had severe loss issues (poor guy). But he did accept her right away and we are now 3 years down the line without ever finding a “new and improved” rainbow ball.

He has now learned to love ropes and tennis balls.

  2. Comment by Ruckus&Rowdie:

Ahhhhh! Ruckus’ favorite toy is my arm in a sweatshirt sleave. He thinks it’s very exciting to bite and pull at my sweatshirt while I try to grab his front legs. He tries to outsmart me by tucking his front legs under himself. I usually let that work…. *sigh*

Rowdie LOVES two toys. She has a soft floppy frizbee that’s as big as her that MUST be shaken into submission after she pounces on it (Don’t tell anybody, but I think there’s some cat in her bloodline). The other favorite is one of those long loofa dogs like in the PetSmart commercial. She’s on her second one. I had to throw the first one away when she wasn’t looking.

    :P

  3. Comment by Oscar and Olivia:

I forgot to add that my pooches loved their Bobos!!!! Both bobos are dead now. About the cat thing, I think that Olivia has some cat in her bloodline too!

  4. Comment by the DoxiePets:

The DoxiePets love their rope toys. It does not have to be a new one, it merely has to be one that another of the DoxiePets is currently playing with. The object is to steal the toy…Kind of like Capture the Conch.

Kira arrived with a stuffed toy in her kennel in which she flew. She still has that toy, still stuffed and she sleeps with it in her crate every night. The rest of them just enjoy stealing any toy that another one has.

We love reading stories too. My Lola loves empty water bottles. This may sound strange, I know… but the way they sound I guess when she scoots them across the wood floor. Then she’ll pounce and it will shoot out from under her and across the room. Then she bounds across the room to pounce on it again. This does seem like typical cat like behavior. I just thrills me to see this! I laugh my butt off at her when she has a water bottle.

Your story put a smile on my face - keep em coming.

  7. Comment by Doxie Lover:

I have owned 5 doxies or should I have they have owned me! My last lived to a ripe 16 1/2 and hard to replace. We got Belle a year ago from a breeding kennel and somewhere along the way she was mistreated. It is better every day. She loves her toys, specially her squirel. It has a furry tail and two squeakers. All toys are great with her and we keep them in a large basket. She will root until she finds the one she wants and remembers where it is. Now if I could teach her to put them back. Doxies are chewers and need tough toys that don’t get chewed into small pieces. Enjoy yours - they bring so much happiness,
    Doxie Lover.

  8. Comment by sami jo:

sami jo just loves to take all her toys out of the basket and leave them all over the floor. she pulls all the stuffing out of a small hole she makes then plays with the body. never tears them any bigger than to just get the guts out. she shakes them like she going in for the kill. i guess the shake better with no guts.

  9. Comment by heidi & fiona:

The girls favorite toy is their BoBos. They cuddle and sleep with them. They have tons of other toys, but I must say Bobo is the best.
