Pick of the litter
Two weeks until “D-Day” = Dachshund day
Our new boys will be coming home March 4. My daughter has named this one “Sky” so far.
The second one has been named “Oreo” by my youngest daughter.
I just started buying stuff. (When our old dog died last summer, my husband was really upset and threw everything out …. except the nail clippers). Today I started to think about everything I need to bring puppies home…. they come with a kennel, blanket and some food. I bought bowls and some toys today and ordered harnesses and leashes. I think I need to hunt online for a list.

There is probably a good list on THDB somewhere. Others here can help you too. Don’t forget a couple of toys and a camera with LOTS of film (or digital space).
How exciting, just a few weeks to go!

Biscuits….how can a puppy expect to survive without biscuits? And how about a water bottle to hang in the crate? Are you going to train them to do their business outside? If not, you are going to need pee pads. All other things can be picked up as you go along. Have you puppy proofed your house yet? Are all lamp cords taped so that little mouths can’t chew them? How about those unused electric sockets? TV an phone cables protected…Not because they might harm themselves with them, but it is nice to pick up a phone or turn on the tv and have it work
. The most important thing is lots and lots of LOVE. I am sure you already have that or you would not be letting these two wonderful puppies own you!

When puppy proofing the house don’t forget to pick up all ant/roach traps (if any). They are a sure target for puppy “illegal” play. Also, I like to use baby shampoo for their bathes so I can wash their faces. Sometimes I use Mane & Tail Horse Shampoo, which can be found at Wal-Mart (in the pet aisle) and this gives their coats a nice shine!
Good Luck

If you can’t find a puppy proofing list you can always use a slightly modified baby/toddler proofing list. When we got Belle we had just completely toddler proofed our house and were pretty much ready for a puppy. Good luck with the new pups. They’re adorable.

Good luck. Oh, I find that dog gates are great for keeping them off stairs, etc. You can get some pretty cheap on line. I have two 18 inch gates that can go in most any door way or the foot of the stairs. We also have a collapsable “play pen” for going to the park and stuff. It works great for taking your pups places.
