If everyone would be so kind as to post just how sweet and adorable and yes, comical your doxies are I would be so appreciative. You see, my husband thinks that we just got super lucky getting such a sweet doxie. He can’t imagine that all doxies are this way. I have been telling him all your stories about your lives and how your doxies have made your lives richer in love and laughter. I just want him to see that I’m not exagerrating. That all doxies are wonderful! That they are simply the best breed out there! That you can have more than one and still keep your sanity. My husband is a great guy, really. I’d just like him to hear it directly from you. I will be showing him your responses. Thanks for all your help.

Lisa I dont know where to begin since I have 3 with different personalities. Heidi of course is the queen of the house. She loves everyone, but lets you know she is in charge. She is loveable and cuddly, but only on her terms. She is very well behaved. Then there is Princess Fiona. Wow she is a great girl. She is so full of love. She always has to be right by my side and is very protective. She has bit many a teenage boys that come and visit our oldest daughter. Once she knows they are welcome here she will let them pet her, but she still keeps them in line. They cant even sit by Kayla. Of course my husband thinks we need all of them to be this way so the boys never come back to visit. Last but definiteky not least there is Opie. Opie is the comedian of the house. We laugh all day at his antics. He is 6 months old and has lots of fun with his sisters. I wouldnt trade any of my babies for the world. We also have 2 very large fur kids and all 5 of them get along great. Let your husband know it is the breed that is so wonderful. They are definitely a great addition to our lives!

  2. Comment by Roo:

Roo is my first dachsie. I got her when she was 8 weeks old. She is now 9 years old and the love of my life. I have had a dog in my life ever since I was born and they were all wonderful dogs, but Roo is the only one who truly stole my heart and sole. If you really want to know how much Roo means to me show your husband her site: http://dachshunddiaries.blogspot.com/ where he can read stories that show her true dachsie personality. Roo is the ONLY dog (fur person)I have ever had who has NEVER once bared her teeth or growled at anyone. There is not a mean bone in her little body.
I hope this will help your husband see that you didn’t just get lucky. Our dachsies are truly the best breed out there!

    Your pals,
    Deb & Roo

Thank for helping me out in this way. Let’s keep them coming. I’d like to give Dan more than 2 responses to read.

    Hi Lisa,

We have 2 Miniature Dachshunds and one that is a Dach/mix….and then we have a little female that is not a Dachshund at all…but I’ll stay on the topic of doxies.

This breed is so fascinating because they are so expressive and a little demanding. Scrabble’s facial expressions get to me so much that he gets away with lots…and he knows it.

They make it impossible not to learn what their different personalities are…and they do it without uttering a single syllable! I don’t know anyone that doesn’t smile when they see one of these little dogs.

I love all dogs…but Dachshunds hold an extra special place in my heart.

Oh byt he way Lisa. I have individual photos on my desk at work of my babies right in a row with my 3 daughters. These little guys have stolen my heart a long with every elses in my family.

  6. Comment by RHUARI+CHASE:

We have 3 mini long dachsies between Mum and I, Penny is ready for a cuddle when she wants one and only for a short time, the rest of the time is hyper active,on the go all the time and then come 9pm flakes out and goes into her night time sleep.
Rhuari is really loving, would sit on my lap all day given a chance and give kisses and cuddles, has bursts of activity through out the day but generally very laid back.
Chase is very active, still very much a puppy at 9.5mths old, loving, cuddly and very friendly to everyone.
Rhuari and Penny are choosy as to who they accept when it comes to strangers, Chase wants a fuss from everyone.
The dachsies vary according to coats, breeding and their owners.
    GOOD LUCK with your research

    Rhona

  7. Comment by Snitzel:

We are all blessed with our little guys and dolls. They are everything the cups and tee shirts and websites say. No one here even knows what a “bad” dachshund is. To be loved, unconditionally, and to be concerned when you sneeze or comfort you when you cry…those have always been in the dachshunds that I have been honored to have in my life.
I agree with Rhona, there is a difference between the coats, etc. i find myself attracted to the black and tans. The two reds I have were both mean and the one, i know, was inbred way too much. Doesn’t mean I dont like them, I just prefer the black and tan.
Enjoy your new little gem…give as good as you get!!!

Being the mom of 8 soon to be mom of 9 dachsie’s, let me tell you, there is nothing in the world like the love of a dachsie, except the love of a human child. I have 1 long hair, and short hairs, dapples, reds, and piebalds, they are all loving wonderful babies. When you look in those eyes and they give you this “I’ll love you forever, your my hero” and you all have seen this I know. Your heart just melts. You hold them in your arms and ok..I know I’m sappy. I have Winston who is my ADHD baby..he is like, “Who said that?” “where was that?” and races like he is at the Indy 500 running through the house. Cher is my diva queen, she just plops that head over your mouth and it’s like give me smoochies now. Sonny is my “Mommy” of the group. He loves all the babies and sucks on their ears, to calm them down and just mommies them. Pandora is my diva Princess. She loves to be held and dressed up. She puts her cheek out for you to kiss for her. Marius is my singer, he sings, and is my terrorist. Rowan is my beautiful little red blonde. No offense to blondes but if Rowan could talk she would be my “Blonde” of the family. Megan is my Meganoodle, she is a tomboy. Rough and tumble and dig. Still waiting on Flavius.he is still growing. But he is a momma’s baby..he cries when he can’t see me. So normally I carry him in a papoose sack around. Enjoy! There is nothing like it!

  10. Comment by Belle&Blaze:

We have 2 dachshunds, and like everyone else says, they have stolen our hearts.
Belle, our girl, is the sweetest, most loving girl you can meet. She just wants to sit and cuddle, and would follow you anywhere if you’d let her.
Blaze, our boy, is the most comical little guy I have ever seen. I could watch him and laugh at him all day, and the more you laugh, the funnier he tries to be!
Both are amazingly sweet with our 3 year old daughter, but don’t let anyone new try to come close to her! They are protective of their human sister!
Both have been wonderful additions to our family, and they just have so much love. Doxies are wonderful.

Princess Mudflap is my b/t and Peanut is my red. They are litter mates. Both will be 3 years old in October. What joy and happiness they bring us everyday. Little clowns that have stolen our hearts. I can’t imagine a day without a “doxie fix”. they are sooooooo addictive.

  12. Comment by doxhoont:

I find it difficult to express in words what Annabel and Brownie mean to us. We don’t have human children but they are truely children to us - just furry ones. We are mommy and daddy and they are our baby girl and baby boy or big girl and big boy depending on our whim. They anticipte the subtlest changes in our mood; whether we are happy or sad. They sit with me quietly when I have a migraine or am feeling less than specatuclar from a sink in my bloodsugar. They ride the couch with Carlos watching the Yankees and moping along with him when they are losing and barking excitedly when he gets excited that they are wining.

Annabel is snooty, endearing, cheeky, ferocious, and cuddly. Brownie is sweet, clownish, silly, winsome and patient. They teach us daily lessons in determination (to get at that cuz ball stuck in the toy box), humility (YOU try getting a doxie to come other than when THEY want you to), and unconditional love!

Sure they occasionaly pee on the parquet floor or barf on the big bed, but those are such small inconveniences when compared to the endless joy they give us.

I have really loved reading everyone else’s comments - thank-you all for sharing.

    Laura

Well as of right now I only have one, but she is the best friend I could ask for. She cuddles with me when I dont feel well and always lets me know she is glad I am home. I had a doxie as a child and always new when I grew up I would have another. Well in oct. I will have my second and I cant wait for her to get here. Im looking forward to watching her with Sami. It has been such a joy. And I look forward to many more years with them.

  14. Comment by Katie:

Roxie is just the sweetest thing. We saw her at the petstore and she was just so calm, she laid in your arms, no squirming, and just chill. We had to get her. Ever since then I really cant imagine not having her. She is a very smart dog-I cant believe how smart she is sometimes. Shes usually very obedient-to me not daddy! I love her whines, bark, and her dreaming barks-that dont really sound like barks. I love her frito smelling paws and the way her kennel smells after she has been sleeping in it. I love the way she runs and follows after me. I especially love the way she can wake her daddy up! I put her on the bed and she runs up to him and kisses him and burrows under the covers with him till he cant stand it anymore-now he tried doing that to me last weekend and she kissed me twice and laid down next to me and fell asleep. Im the dominant one, daddy is a pushover! Cute! I love her looks, the way she cocks her head and the look of it wasnt me. She is a cutie and a sweetie!!! I love taking her for walks and car rides and the way she has the MCDONALDS staff TRAINED! She doesnt even have to jump on me and hang out the window anymore-she sits on the passenger side looking at them and she gives her a treat right away! LOL. I just hope she never had health issues…since she was sick to begin with. I wouldnt be able to afford to keep her! So heres praying. But I do miss her when we go away even for the day. Shes so funny…and cute…and lovable. And very obediant and smart..i metioned that. By 5 1/2 to 6 months she already knew fetch, come, sit, stay, lay down, off, and go for go potty. She doesnt run after children or anything else if not tied up-even tho I watch her. I dont quite understand why she always has to stay on the sidewalk when going to the car and house after car rides-i cut thru the grass and she takes the long way around on the sidewalk and as always-beats me by running her little cute doxie butt up the stairs first! I hope your husband loves these comments-every dog is different but always has that special tug on your heart.

  15. Comment by Schnitzel:

    Dear Dan,

My Schnitzel is the most wonderful and sweet dog I’ve ever met. Sadly I haven’t had the opportunity to meet any other doxies, so he is the only one I can speak about.

He is smart as a whip. He can learn tricks in 10 minutes. People constantly comment on how smart he is. He is excellent with people. I take him to work with me and he sniffs everyone then gives them love.

He plays with toys independently when Mommy’s busy, but when she isn’t he is there to cuddle. He keeps Mommy warm in the big bed at nite.

He is gracious in the morning when its time to go out. He give Mommy a few minutes to get ready… waiting patiently. He came to live with me when he was 8 months old and he NEVER has accidents. Who ever heard of a dog that never had an accident? I expected to potty train him. Boy did I waste an hour reading that chapter.

He refuses to go out in the rain unless he has his raincoat on. But here is what I don’t get, how does he know that coat is going to stop him from getting wet? Hmmmm

He doesn’t bark, he loves to please, and he loves to rough house, but he knows how to treat a lady too. Any of my male friends who come over can expect to have a wrestling match and have their hands bitten off. But any ladies get treated to kisses and a tongue bath. He is quite the gentleman.

Oh and finally, and I must include this because it just makes me happy, my brother got this baby french bulldog, which is about 4 months old now. For the first couple months everywhere we went together all the people just ignored Schnitzel and said, Ohhhh look at the frenchie he is sooooo cute! We love him!! Barf.

Now when we go out together and the frenchie and Schnitzel are the same size, its all about little Schnitzel again. Ohhh he is so cute, ohhh look at those colors, ohhhh what a cute little doggie can I pet him?

Ok I think I’m done now. Doxies are the best!
