<description>The coat depends on what has been previously in their pedigree.

I am presuming you are in the States where mixing of coats is common and therefore the longhaired dachsies don't get as full a coat.

The full coat is usually in at 3 yrs of age but long before that there should be long hair on the ears and tail followed by the back of the legs and under carriage.

What sort of temprature the dog lives in also alter the coat ie:- hot summers or central heating in the winter makes the dog drop their coat.

If you dog has been spayed that also changes the coat and when in season females auto matically drop their coat.

A good diet is also essential to maintain the coat.

So as you can see there is alot of things which could be the reason for a poor long haired dachsie.

I hope this helps.

<description>peppy is long haired, 14 months old, and doesn't have really long hair, nor is his coat very full. it is getting fuller and longer as time goes by but i would have thought he would have had a "fuzzier" look by now. in any case we love him and enjoy him.
