floor care

Hi. We recently replaced almost all the carpet on the first floor with laminate and a bit of hardwood. Unfortunately, the piddle puddles still exist even though we play the in/out game alot. So, I need some good suggestions as to how to clean it up. I hear so many different things about cleaning the laminate. We were told to buy this expensive cleaner for it. But since I am constantly wiping up the puddles it is not cost effective. I have been using Swiffer and it works pretty well. Don’t know what to do about the hardwood. The puddles seem to soak in unlike the laminate. I would appreciate any suggestions.

thanks

do a search in the forums and you will find some discussion of floor cleaning. post there for more responses.

You probably need to seal the hard wood so any puddles lie on the top.

I have laminate upstairs in the bed rooms and just clean up any accidents with Biological Washing Liquid for your clothes dissolved in some water which gets rid of the smells of the urine, don’t make it too wet or the laminate will swell, dry off thoroughly.

Be careful what cleaning solutions you use on your hardwood or linolium floors. I have read more than one article about dogs that have died from homeowners who have used Swiffer cleaning solution on their floors. Their dogs walk on the floors and then lick their paws, thus ingesting some of the cleaning solution causing them to get sick and some have even died. I would ask your vet if he knows of any cleaning solution you could use that would not be harmful to your pets.

The puddles should not be soaking into the hardwood that fast. You definitely need to have them sealed. I use any household cleaner to clean my Pergo. Just spray and wipe dry. It is the easiest to keep clean. Also, that Swiffer story is an urban legion and there is no truth to it. Do not spread it around. It is definitely NOT TRUE.

I also have laminate/hardwood floors and I was told to clean it with vinegar and water. Just mix a little vinegar into a bucket of water and be sure to dry it up really well afterwards. It leaves your floor looking just like new.

Great idea, ashleyt! vinegar is the best and won’t harm the animals. if it smells funky to you, spray a little ozium around. that stuff clears up ANY smell. you can find it at drug stores and believe it or not, tobacco specialty stores. It is loaded with enzymes which kill bacteria which causes odors. sorry. did that not sound like a commercial? honest, have no stock in the co. but should
