How do you treat vomiting?

Sophie is ill today. She started the morning throwing up food from last night. Past advice from the vet is…with hold all food for 24 hours. I am doing that. Is there anything else I can do? She is either dry heaving or vomiting a white to yellowish color foamy stuff. Poops are solid. I’ve been told to feed her boiled hamburger and rice in small amounts after 24 hours is up. Is this the correct advice? Please help.

Thanks to all,
Lisa (and a not so well) Sophie

Mine sometimes have the same problem. Dehydration is the biggest worry, as drinking makes them heave more. Murphy sometimes was so poorly after his chemotherapy, that he had to have Dyalite (rehydration salts in water) squited into his mouth by syringe. After 24 hours I feed them boiled chicken and rice, if they want food. If the problem continues, I would take her to the vet. Good luck and paws crossed for a quick recovery.

I hope she feels better, make sure she doesn’t get dehydrated and feed something bland like boiled chicken and rice in small amounts after the 24 hrs,if at all worried take her to the vet.

Thanks for the help. I was up most of the night with 3 sick dogs. I don’t know what they had but all are keeping down small amounts of water, boiled chicken and rice. Thanks again, I can always depend on our friends on THDB.

    Hugs,
Lisa and Sophie (Sherwood and Cooper too)

    Hey,
I really hope she gets better soon, and sience I am a vet asst., soon to be a vet. I would say that you are doing a good job, but try and stay away from rich foods becuase that might make her even more sick. Also keep in eye on her, to make sure nothing else changes, try and get her to lye down and get some rest too. If you have any other problems, just talk to me “Lindsy”, I will be in the chat room waiting. My best wishes and love sre with you and Sophie….good luck!!
