How do I catch a scared, stray doxie?

I live near a bank and while walking one of my dogs, two bank employees leaving work pointed to a stray doxie who has been in their parking lot all day. I tried to get near her, but she is so skittish. I went home and got some kibble. While walking my other dog, I placed some kibble in the parking lot. As I went by on the way home, I watched her find it and eat it. She ran away before I could get near her. I went home and got some cheese, kibble and a bowl of water and went back to the lot, sat down and called her. She would not come near, but I walked a little away and she came and ate the cheese (of course!). She is not wearing a collar. Any hints or suggestions?

Send a PM to Suz! Zuke’s mom! She’s an expert dachshund whisperer!

Poor little weenie! I hope you save her! Just be patient and use your sweetest doxie mommy voice. Try again a bit later when its not so busy or bright out. Also try peanut butter - its pretty irresistible for our two!

    GOOD LUCK!

It is dark here now and most of the employees are leaving. I will try in a little bit. I will p.m. Suz

Yes, PB is good. Maybe try without your doxies. Best of luck to you. I know you can get the little one.

Do you have a crate that you can put the treats in?

Place a blanket in the crate sn scatter the treat between the blanket so that she’ll stay in long enough to look for them.

Hopefully you can get close fast enough to close the crate door…

I just went back there with some more cheese. I did not find her in the parking lot (sort of dark), but I did see her across the street at the corner. She ran when I spoke to her. She is soooo skittish! I did put cheese pieces on the sidewalk. She hasn’t gone back to eat the kibble I placed with the cheese earlier. Poor thing!

It seems she is hanging around there for some reason if she was still there when you went back. Hopefully you can get close enough to her to coax her to you or into a crate. Can you leave your car door open and put cheese treats down that go into your car, and you can hide to watch out of view. Hopefully she is hungry enough to eat the cheese.

Suzzane said to use meat, not cheese to try to lure the doxie. If you see her again try some chicken, liver or beef to lure her.

That poor baby :( I hope she gets caught before something bad happens to her….just thinking about her being out there all alone is sad. I hope she is OK.

I hope you manage to catch her and take her to a safe warm place.
