Update on the stray doxie
Well last night I was unable to see the doxie after dark. This morning, early, I walked over and did not see it. About 9:30 I walked over and saw it. I went home, got some chicken and walked back to the parking lot. I tried not to look at the dog, I sat down and tossed pieces of chicken away from me. I noticed that the dog was downwind and could smell me and the chicken. I got up and walked away, behind some shrubs and the dog ate the meat. I did this for a while, then went home, sprinkling chicken on the sidewalk. I put Amy & Brandy in the back yard. I then walked back to the parking lot and noticed the dog near the street. Anyway to make a long story short, I saw the dog walk into my carport and peek around by my fence. Amy was there and barked at it. It left the area and headed back to where it has been hanging out. I know it can smell my scent. I know it is scared, but it passed up pieces of chicken to walk to my house, so I hope it will not get hit by a car before I can get it to trust me. I was far away from it when I watched it go into my carport. I have not seen it in the last 20 minutes.

Yes, you do not want to lure it where it can get hit by a car. It is obviously hungry to eat the chicken - poor thing. Can you get it close enough to you to get ahold of? Have a leash and collar with you just in case. Also, if you can get it to your house again, make sure Brandy and Amy are inside so they don’t bark and scare her. Good Luck! I hope you are able to save this scared and lost doxie. Maybe some other bloggers have some other ideas on how you can gain her confidence and get her out of harms way.

Keep up the good work, you may have to put your 2 inside so as not to spook it and leave trail to a dish of food in the carport farthest from the entrance.
Does the dachsie look underfed?? She will just need time to get used to you, look what Suz did to get Amira to trust her,it took ages.
Good Luck

I also think you may want to call your local rescue group or animal control and get them to come out and get involved….they are good at this. I’d hate to know this poor little thing got hit by a car. You are an angel for trying so hard to rescue her….but she sounds so frightened that you may want to look at getting more people involved.

Just a thought…once she is caught, maybe she is micro-chipped and can be identified. Her owners may be going crazy looking for her.
