Does anyone out there have any tips on how to handle a situation where your doxie gets aggressive with you? Tonight ArrBee snapped at me when I found out he pd on my carpet and I showed him the paper towel as I do when he does that. This time, he actually growled and snapped at me. I wasn’t even angry about it, I always just tell him I was sad. When I said, what was THAT all about, he growled and snapped at me again! Papa about flipped. I didn’t act scared and just asked him again. He started wagging his tail and followed me like nothing happened.
I don’t want ArrBee to be aggressive like that, and it truly surprised me. I have no desire to whoop his little back side for being nasty, but being mean only makes them meaner. I don’t want to breed him if he has a little anger management problem. Breeders don’t want that. Any one have any input on this? I’d appreciate any advice. I looked in the forum but didn’t see anything. Let me hear from you!! Please!!!

Try the spray bottle of water. Put the nozzle on spritz, and give Arrbee a shot in the face the next time he act aggressive or growls. I tried it on Baxter once when he growled at me for trying to take his chewy away, and he never did it again. Mary uses it very successfully to stop Amy and Brandy from barking. Most likely all you will have to do is pick up the spray bottle, and he will stop whatever bad behavior he is doing. I noticed that the dog trainers at PetSmart use the spray bottle in training too.

Weenie does the same thing if she gets angry with us for something. Our cure-all is a firm voice. She HATES being yelled at and considers anything “firm” to be just that.

Hughie is a bit of a growler sometimes…. its a dominance thing. The spray bottle works well, as does a tin with pebbles in. Shake that, and the behaviour stops. I think that they just don’t like the noise.

I think it is a dominance thing too,he is getting more mature and is testing you to see how you react, try the water or the can of stones or coins.

Thank you all! Unfortunately, gotta nix the spray bottle. He likes to be sprayed!! But the can or stones or coins might work. He actually loves noise but maybe if done in a certain way, he will behave a mite better. PS…it is the morning now and BOY! when he came out of the kennel, he was quite contrite and making up to me. Of course, I let him but told him he was mean last nite and the attitude HAS to stop. I am getting older and crankier.
Thanks again friend!

I used one of those annoying air horns in a can. The type you take to sporting events or use on a boat.
A small burst of a rather loud obnoxious sound really does the trick. I discovered this when I air blasted a telemarketer on the phone. I trained the telemarketer to never call again!!!!I consider it a must have phone accessory
