Hi All,
Can you believe I was looking today at some of Fancy’s old photo’s and came across this one and couldn’t believe what I saw…. I took the other one this afternoon and can you believe it is the same Doxie????
If we hadn’t put her on a diet I don’t think she would be with us today…. so from experience please, please, if your baby is overweight restrict their intake so they will live a happy and healthy life….
Luv,
Sharon aka as Fancy’s mom

You make a really good point! I’m glad to hear she is on the road to becoming her svelte self. Cheese is good, but only in small quantities!!

I hope you get her back to her trim figure. I don’t have that problem with ArrBee. He has his mama’s (hooman) that is metabolism. eats like a horse and has never in her life been overweight!

How did you diet Fancy? I need to lose a few pounds, mom & dad say I am getting lumpy. I think it is just winter weight but I will try if it will make them happy.
Your lumpy pal,
Sunny

Hey Sunny Bear,
Glad to help…
When I was soooooo overweight mom & dad always kept my food bowl fool… and then when they realized they were slowing killing me dad started giving me 1/3 of a cup of Hi-Standard dog food that I have been on since I was 7 weeks old… and I only get it at noon each day and if he forgets I let him know LOL….. check this out

I’ve been loosing too. I get half the kibble I used to and a whole bunch of green beans. They are good, really, and carrots in our kongs. They crunch nice! Fancy is really a post pup for all of us. If she can do it, we all can!

Thanks for sharing that story with all of us. Many of us overfeed our dachshunds and they become round hounds. Most of you know that Clover from Kurt and Kate’s first litter was recently rehomed with the stipulation that she would be forced to loose weight and exercise. A good friend of mine used to work for a canine neurologist and she tells me that most of the back problems she saw in dachshunds were caused by them being overweight. At DoxiePets Kennels we feed once a day and only 3/4 cup of ProPlan Selects then. Treats are limited to low fat chicken jerky. We want our dachshunds to be with us a LONG time, so we love them in all ways….including the food bowl!

Woo Hoo–great job Fancy! You look wonderful now!! I myself need to lose a pound or two. I am working on it, mama says we are rationing my treats. Wonder what that means?

WOW, you did great in the dieting area:) I have seen so many overweight dachsies, and my Louie is not a lean unit by any means. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, and dedication to really get these guys to lose weight, I am very impressed:))) A job well done:))) Bobbi

Yeeessss! Congrats to you, Fancy, and to your mom and dad for limiting your treats/food. Carrots and green beans and an occasional cheese bite rule! Keep up the great work!!
