The vet didn't find anything in the blood. So that is good. They just really don't know what is causing this. They say it maybe a bacterial infection, it may be a tick related illness. We don't think he got into anything he shouldn't have .. and nothing showed up in the blood, so that leaves us with watching him closely for the next day or two .. hoping this gives time for the antibiotics to work.
He is acting some better tonight. I made him chicken and rice .. which he gobbled right down! So that made me feel better. He isn't drinking .. but I did give him a ice cube to lick at. Thought that would be better then nothing and he loves ice!
Thank goodness I am able to stay home and keep watch over him.
Thank you all for your thoughts and consern for him. Its nice to have support!

I'm so sorry to hear that Reese still isn't feeling well! Thank goodness you went with your instinct and took him to the vet! Mama's always know best. I think you're doing the right thing by trying to get him to eat and drink some. I hope he's feeling better today and that he perks up!!

Gosh, so sorry to hear Reese is making little progress. Sometimes these things do take time, but getting the blood work done will let you know what is happening for sure. He might need some fluids via IV at the vet. If he has not been drinking just geting fluids in them can make a difference and is very important.
Please let us know how he does today at the vets.
We are crossing paws and saying prayers that he will be ok.

You are doing all the right things. See if you can get him to eat something that he really loves. Try baby meat. He also needs to drink water so he doesn't get dehydrated. Just know that we are all praying for him.

HI Guys .. well I don't know what to make of Reese. I say he is not much better. And momma usually knows best.
He has not eaten nor had anything to drink since yesterday afternoon. He did pee and poo this morning .. but he came in jumped up on the couch and hasn't moved since. He is not near as hot so I do believe the fever has lowered. And he does wag his tail today when I talk to him. Yesterday he didn't even do that. So there may be some very slight bit of a improvement but not enough for me .. so we are going on to the next step ..he is going to the vet to get blood work done. :0(
I feel so helpless!

I hope there was some improvement over night. Our thoughts are with you

My Mum was given that antibiotic a couple of months ago for a UTI and they helped to clear it up.

Well .. guys its almost 11pm .. and I am sad to say Reese really seems no better. He has slept ever since we got home from the vet. He did eat and drink a little when we got home at 3 .. but I just tried to get him to drink and a treat and he refused it.
He walked a few steps very weak and wobbly .. and went back to sleep in his chair.
So looks like unless there is a miricle of some kind overnight .. like its back to the vet in the morning.
Keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

I rushed Reese into the vet at 2pm today. I went in to check on him this afternoon while he was sleeping, and he felt VERY HOT! So I rushed him to the vet fast as I could.
His fever was 104.2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They came to a conculsion that its a bacterial infection.
They don't think its viral because he is current on his shots and the vet said it rare to get a viral infection when you are up to date on shots. So he is guessing its bacteria infection.
He gave him a shot while we were there to bring the fever down.. and he sent us home with pills (Doxycycline).
He did eat alittle when we got home and he had some water too. But he went right back to bed.
The vet said we should see a improvement later today.
If he is not better by morning he needs to go back in and they will do blood work.
Let's hope he feels better!!!!!!!

Try an oatmeal bath on Reese. Can't hurt and just might help. Another thing is try using aloe vera on a small spot and see if that relieves the itching. Not too much..aloe can give a puppy the poops. Just to try and see if that helps. The other, well, that is for the vet. I would have went IN with him to be seen immediately. But you know drs. Same with humans. Like you can wait even tho you are sick. Go figure! Good luck, sweetie. Hope he is ok. The weather sux for all of us!!

Sounds like Reece is not himself at all and needs to have a vet check him. Glad to hear he is going tomorrow. Did your vet sound concerned when you told him his symptoms? Did he ask you any questions? Keep an eye on your baby, and don't hesitate to take him to an emergency vet if things get worse. He could have eaten something that did not agree with him and has made him sick. Someone posted on here a short time ago that their vet said dogs will shake when they are nauseous.
Good luck and let us know how things go.

Thanks everybody for some encouragement!

Hey Tubesock .. we live in Georgia .. and its been 90 Plus degrees! Yep, Georgia, California .. we're not cold. HA HA! If anything we all should have heat stroke! HA HA!

I did get Reese to eat 4 bites of chicken. And he has stopped shaking. Although, he is still sleeping. Not moving much at all .. he seems depressed.

Reese is a very active guy. He always has been. He is almost what I would call hyper! VERY HAPPY! And always willing to eat you out of house and home .. so this is very unusual for him to be acting this way.

I called the vet and he goes tomorrow morning for a check up.

I would say to go with your instinct. A call to the vet can't really hurt. Sometimes our little guy shivers in the morning too... and we live in California, so he can't be that cold! If the sun isn't out, he pouts and acts cold. :) Other mornings he doesn't want to eat right away either. So, maybe Reese is just feeling a little gloomy today... but a call to the vet seems like a good precaution. Good luck!!
