The Low-Down on Low-la
Hey gang, we wanted to introduce you to our newest foster sister, Low-la.

She was dumped at the local humane society back at the begining on April. The people said they found her on the sidewalk…. which of course makes PERFECT sense since she couldn’t use her back legs or go potty on her own. Everybody knows the first thing us doxies do when we have back trouble is run away from home!! In fact, the less ability we have to walk, the further away we like to go.
Anyway, the HS emailed our rescue and asked us to take her because they said she was starting to be able to move her legs again. Mommy and her rescue partner were afraid to take Low-la because back problems can be very expensive, but decided to accept her because they didn’t want her to be put to sleep.
Low-la was put on strict crate rest and prednisone for 7 weeks and every day she seemed to get a little better and better. The vet says she’s about 5 and she was only 5.5 pounds when she came to us. She was starving, missing patches of fur (esp. on her ears) and her mouth was full of rotten teeth. Her breath was so bad that mommy wouldn’t let Low-la kiss her very much which was hard on both of them because mommy likes getting kisses as much as Low-la likes giving them!
After Low-la came off crate rest two weeks ago, she got to go to the vet and have her teeth cleaned. They ended up having to pull 15 of them though, which made Low-la sad and very sore for a few days. Now my mom says she’s working with Low-la on learning good pack manners. Even though Low-la is the tiniest doxie mom has ever seen and still kind of wobbly on her back legs, she still wants to be the boss of everybody! Mommy is teaching Low-la that SHE is the boss and when mommy says no - it means NO. Low-la is getting better with mommy’s help. She will sleep with us now and let us cuddle with her. She will even try to play fetch and not try to bite Rowdie if Rowdie gets the ball first. Since mommy is trying to teach Low-la, we decided that we would too. First, we taught her to howl like us when mommy leaves every day for work. Then, we taught her to go back to bed with the kids after breakfast. She’s a fast learner! She is also learning that outside is the ONLY place we’re allowed to go potty - which is kind of annoying to us sometimes (especially if the grass is cold and wet), but mommy gets really cranky if we don’t conduct our business outside. Low-la still isn’t sure which is worse though… mommy’s wrath or the cold, wet grass.
Low-la is tiny, smart, and spunky. We’re doing our best to help her get healthy so she can go to her very own forever home like all our other rescue buddies. Please welcome her and remember her in your prayers so that one day she’ll be loved like all the rest of us. In the meantime, our love will just have to do.

Low-la it is good to hear you are on the mend and hope you continue to get better. Sorry about losing so many teeth but in time your mouth will feel better and it won’t hurt anymore. Plus you will have good breath and be able to kiss your foster mom lots. God bless your foster mom for taking you in and helping you out in your time of need.

What a sweet looking doxie! How the blazes someone could abuse a poor helpless animal that way is beyond me!! Grrrrrrrrrr!
Thank god for caring people like you who give these kinds of animals a second chance at life and to know that not all humans are like the low life idiots who treated them so badly.
Prayers and crossed paws that Low-la makes a full recovery and finds an amazing loving forever home!

Hahahaha! Laura! I didn’t get what you were talking about at first and then I heard, “What Lola wants, Lowla gets!” in my head! CLASSIC! Now I have a new song to sing to her! She’s been stuck with, “Lola! L-O-L-A Lola!” for the last few weeks. *hugs* Lee Anne
