So this morning….
I was in Iowa with Derek and my friend Michelle, Sinn and Smokey. Well Derek and his mom went to go get groceries and gas. Derek was pumping gas when he saw this old lady lift a puppy out of a car trunk across the lot. He immediately identified it as a doxie and went over to make sure. Now, as some of you know, Derek did not want me to have another dog. He finally said yes (a very iffy yes) but then we had some issues with the leasing company we rent from. Well this lady’s dogs a male mini and a female standard had a little secret love affair and wala! 7 babies. She was selling them out of her trunk. Derek asked her what she was going to do with the last 2. Someone was supposed to come and look at them to buy them, but if they went unsold, they would be “taken care of”. He didn’t see this to be a good thing, so he begged her to stay there and rushed home to get me. He pulled me out of bed and dragged me in a t shirt, boxer shorts and flip flops, hair uncombed and teeth unbrushed. Michelle came with us, both of them knew but i had no idea. So we get there and I am still so confused until i see Michelle reach into a box and pull out the last lonely puppy. She is a chocolate and tan girl with hazel eyes and a very very pink tongue. Derek hands me my check book and i write a check for $50. I tried to get as much info from this woman as i could. Shelby (derek got to name her for his heroism) has been dewormed but has no shots yet. She is on isolation from Smokey and Sinn until i can get her to the vet tomorrow. I could not say no to this baby, and when Derek explained to me, well I’m glad i didn’t. She is so playful and a good eater. She will be 3 months old August 1st. She seems to like her new family even though when she first met me i looked less than stellar and i probably had stinky breath. Smokey likes her already and Sinn is a little standoffish, but I’m sure she’ll come around. We decided to sneak the puppy at our apartment and then if questioned say that we are baby sitting. 9 months and counting of sneaking this dog in and out. LOL… it’s gonna be a looooooong 9 months. I’m at work now, but i’ll post pics later….

WOWOWOWOW!!!! This was absolutely MEANT to be. I have bought as many as I possibly could if for nothing else than to eventually find them new homes.
Train Shelby (love love love that name btw) to sit STILL REALLY STILL so the evil landlady thinks she’s a figurine. Either that OR you could send her to Auntie to safeguard her until your new home is ready. I promise to send her back …… YEAH RIGHT!!!
Can’t WAIT to see the green eyed Shelby girl!
Congrats!!!!

Congrats on your new pup! Thanks for saving her!
Sneaking a puppy can be very stressful. I did it with Bo for several months before I moved..turns out the landlady knew all along (God knows how), and wouldn’t give me back my deposit when I moved. Fair trade

Congratulations on the new family addition. This was really a rescue, as goodness knows what would have happened to poor Shelby had you not taken her.
This sort of selling pups and kittens is illegal in the UK…… maybe there is a moral there somewhere?

Well done for saving this pup, I take it that the other one sold whilst Derek was home fetching you.

Hey, a big hug to Derek!! In fact, hugs all around!! What a rescue! Looks like Sinn and Smokey got to him — yeah, TOTW in little steps. Welcome to Shelby (I love her name!), I’m sure she’ll be a terrific addition to your family. Please post her picture as soon as you can!
