Another life of mine gone

I came home from work this afternoon and called hello to the dogs like always and went to open the gate so they could come out. There was Anna, happy, tail wagging like always. And there was a lump under the blankets on their bed. I called Smokey’s name, called it again. Nothing. I swear my heart stopped. I got down on my hands and knees to move the blankets. Finally, a little red head moved, and I started breathing again. He must have been so deeply asleep. My old heart can’t take this sort of thing any more!

Yikes Carrie - that would be terrifying! I can only imagine how you must have felt. Silly boy to be sooo sound asleep.
Smokey Auntie says CUT IT OUT - you’re killing your momma!

I agree! Scary, scary, scary!
I have a 15 year old German Shepard mix who is mostly deaf. Every day that I come home and it’s only Pappy that greets me at the door I go through the same thing.
Thankfully he’s always just been asleep on the bed and too deaf to hear the door open. *knocks wood*
Glad it turned out okay!

Carrie, I can relate. We had gone out for about an hour. Upon our return, all our dogs, except the new Aussie puppy came to greet us. She had managed to knock a can of mixed nuts off the counter, get the lid off, and stick her head in it. She was STUCK! I know my heart skipped at least one beat, if not more. I’m much more protective now.
Glad everything turned out ok!

Yikes….. I bet that gave you another few grey hairs Auntie C! Mum worries about Heather too…. but at least she snores so loudly that we know that she’s fine, even if she doesn’t wake up when called.
Mum is really looking to meeting you Smokey and Anna….. but please Smokey…. I would appreciate it if you don’t scare her like that! We want her back in one piece!

Can’t tell you how often that has happened with my older dogs! My 14 y.o. Fiesty I have thought was in a coma - I try to shake her awake and sometimes it takes several “shakes” and I freak out thinking she is in a coma!
In sympathy! Ruth

I’ve had this same thing with Lizzie, she sleeps much more soundly since her bad teeth were removed and I now find myself checking her to make sure she’s really breathing. Glad all was ok
