Prayers for a doxie mom
I just spoke with my sister-in-law earlier today and she shared this with me. A past co-worker and friend of her’s bred their two mini doxies. The mom had 9 pups! She delivered 8 and unfortunately the last one was “stuck” inside of her. When they realized something was wrong, they rushed her to the vet, got the last baby out, and put her on meds. Unfortunately baby #9 was stillborn, #8 only lived a few minutes, and three others (the “runts”) all passed away. The mother also passed away over the weekend. I don’t know if she just had too much stress on her body or if it was mainly the stuck pup causing infection/other complications. This was her 3rd litter and my sis-in-law said the pups are double dapple, but that they didn’t breed two dapples together. Supposedly only the dad is dapple.
I don’t know if the pups are truly double dapple or not, but she said they are beautiful. Her friend is bottle feeding the four remaining pups. She says they are fat and happy, and there have been no signs of problems with them. The lady’s mom had a sheltie that just had puppies and she said the sheltie nursed the pups for a little while right after the mother passed. She also said the dad has been cleaning the pups.
My sis-in-law’s friend is just beside herself with grief. I can only imagine. The mother of the pup’s was her baby, and to have to watch her and 5 other little ones pass would just be so much to deal with.
Please keep this human and doxie family in your prayers and pawyers. I’m going to see if I can get a pic of the pups.

Oh I am so sorry, I will keep the family in my prayers. Sometimes a dapple can be hidden, have dappling that fades, this is nortious with reds, or have just a spot of dapple in their mouths, ears, etc. So it is hard to tell sometimes. It was probably due to the large strain on Mommy carring so many babies and causing her to be weak, and with the stuck puppy, who knows infection, too much lost blood. Breeding isn’t for the faint hearted, sometimes bad things happen, no ones fault.
Please be careful posting pictures of pups, get caught up with blogs and threads on Todd’s new rules….don’t know if it is ok or not, if your friend intends selling the babies or not, such a gray area.
Send our prayers to your friend, so sorry this happened!

How awful to have lost the pups and the mommy! Nine seems like a lot of pups for a doxie to carry and deliver. I’ll pray for the souls of the departed and send happy healthy chubby puppy vibes to the survivors.

dystocia is very hard on a mother. Sounds like everything possible was done to save her and the babes.
The living pups sound like they are coming along just fine. Hope all goes well.
good luck

That is so very sad. People do not realize all that can go wrong when you breed your pets. It can quickly turn into a nightmare.
Please give your friend my heart felt condolences.

Prayers said for the doxies and their “mom”.
Hearing stories like this has made me decide I will probably never breed Miss Daisy. Hugs, Ruth and Daisy
