I’m a nervous mommy today!

I dropped Cooper off this morning at the vet for his “snip” They took him back after I gave him kisses bye. As I was filling out all the paperwork, I heard him crying. The girl up front said they were putting his catheter in… all I can think about is my poor little baby crying now!

They are supposed to call me when his surgery is over. It was scheduled for this morning, but she said the doctor moves things around as necessary. I’m trying to stay busy with work to distract me.

I’ll be picking him up after 9:30 tomorrow and I’m staying home to be with him. Poor little guy!

  1. Comment by Baxters Mom:

We will keep our fingers crossed that everything goes well with Cooper’s snip surgery.
Luckily it is not as evasive on boys as it is on girls.
Baxter was back to his old self a day after he got home after his snip.

Give Coopers lots of TLC and hugs when he gets home! I am sure he will be fine.

awww I’m sure he’ll do fine. Kirby was bouncing off the walls within 3 hours of getting his snip. Course then he would fall over cause he over did it. But he was just fine! They’ll take great care of him.

Cooper should do just fine. It will probably be harder to keep him on the quiet side after the surgery than anything else.

Bette is right, after a neutering (and why is it boys always have it easier than girls?) they bounce back quite quickly.

Good that you’ll be staying home with him though - I think your vet should prescibe a few long winter’s naps to help him heal all that much faster.

It is horrible to have to hear them cry isn’t it?

  4. Comment by Tia:

It is a worrisome thing but you will be happier in the long run and so will he! Hang in there Cooper!

  5. Comment by Courtney:

I was so nervous when I brought Auggie to get her little surgery! When I was a little kid our Springer Spaniel pulled her stitches out and her guts were hanging out, so I was totally paranoid. Auggie’s incision was less than an inch long (we have a GREAT vet) and she acted like nothing ever happened!

  6. Comment by CoopersMommy:

I just got a update from the vet. Well actually I got impatient and called! But Cooper is doing fine.

I had them shorten his nails a little and I think the doctor might have misunderstood just how short I wanted them. (Eek!) I’ll wait to see how they look. He had them cut on Saturday but they still were a little too long for me. The doctor cut them into the quick while he was out and cauterized (sp?) them. He kept saying he cut them waaay back. I hope they aren’t too short. He said they might be sensitive for a few days.

He said he had long quicks, probably because of his long body! LOL At first I thought he was being funny, but I think he was being serious!

Thanks for the reassurance. I know I’m just being a overly nervous mommy.

PS - I agree Laura, why does it always get to be easier for the boys?? Not fair!

Cooper we wish you a very fast recovery. Perhaps you will get cheese and when you get home. (we are glad your mudder is staying home with you tomorrow)

Cooper will be so excited that you are staying home with him tomorrow! He will forget he even had surgery!!! We wish you a quick recovery Cooper!!!

  9. Comment by Ruth McDaniel:

Yeah, it is just not fair how quick boys recover! As for the nails, my Shed chews her nails REALLY short! But it never seems to bother her having them short, so hopefully Cooper will be fine with it!
    Hugs, Ruth and Daisy

  10. Comment by TheMusketeers:

I knew Cooper would be just fine, but it’s hard not to worry. I’ve had 6 males neutered, and with each one I worried to, it’s surgery. Mine were all bouncing off the walls within a day or two:)) Cooper will be happy to have you home tomorrow, you can give him lots and lots of snuggles:))) I’m glad to hear everything went good. I had the vet tell me the opposite with Louie. I had them cut his nails when they checked his thyroid level. Whenever they cut his nails, they are soooooooooo short, but the vet said he doesn’t have quicks, and said it’s rare that a dog doesn’t have quicks, but it’s not a bad thing, it makes cutting their nails much easier, and without worry of hurting them.
