Oh Kona, mommy is so proud of you!
I think we’ve reached a milestone!
A few months ago, we decided to try leaving Kona in the kitchen instead of his crate. Of course we left his crate in the kitchen and plenty of toys. Well, he kept getting out of the kitchen and running up the stairs (at that time, he didn’t know how to get down the stairs) and oh boy did he wreak havoc. Tipping over wastebaskets, tearing rolls of toilet paper into million different pieces, chewing up the chord to a floor lamp we had in the loft (thank God my husband unplugged it THAT morning!). And on top of that, when we were home and he was hanging out with us, he kept having accidents in the house. So we decided that he wasn’t ready to be “un-crated” yet. So went back with our routine of leaving him in a crate while we were gone.
Fast forward to today, while contemplating of what to do for dinner, I met my husband for a quick bite to eat. I told him I was going to keep Kona out of his crate while I was gone. So I put the baby gate up so Kona can’t get up the stairs, put everything on top of the dining room table so Koners can’t get in trouble, unplugged anything electrical that he may chew on and off I went.
I was gone for about 45 minutes and the whole time my husband and I were eating, he kept telling, you’ll be cleaning up poop and pee, he knocked over the gate and he’s upstairs right now wreaking havoc (since I forgot to close the doors) But, when I came home, there was Kona, greeting me at the door and I did a quick survey, the couch wasn’t chewed up, no piddles or poop on the floor, everything was in order!
So, with that, I really think we’ve reached a milestone. I think we’re going to start leaving him out of his crate for short amounts of time and work our way up. Hopefully we can get to the point where we can leave him out for the day and him not create trouble.
Wish Kona luck HDB friends!
