Hi all! Well, we’re finally HOME! I’m so excited to finally have Cali here with us! I’ll give a brief little journal of what happened yesterday:

I arrived at the cargo facility around 5:15, they said someone had gone to fetch her, and should be back in 15 - 20 minutes. Well, 45 minutes later they asked if I’d checked again (no! considering I was sitting right in front of them I thought they’d let me know!) … I think she’d been there for a little while. Anyway, I took her in her crate to the car. She was pretty scared, just sitting in the corner of her crate. I put her in the backseat and got in with her and opened the door. She slowly came out, I petted her on the head and she leaned her little head over in my hand. (So sweet!) Then she climbed in my lap and cuddled for a few minutes. She had little tears in her eyes and on her face where she’d been crying… I felt so bad!

My first thought was how tiny she is! She’s right at 8lbs… I didn’t realize how much of a difference there would be between her and Coop. She is smaller, and lower to the ground. She’s a cutie!! So I put the harness I bought on her (Puppia) and took her to the only spot of grass I could find. There were lots of loud trucks, but she seemed somewhat unphased by them. It was raining so we didn’t stay out long. She kept stepping out of her harness (its too big) and it was raining, so we went back to the car without pottying.

I set her up in the passenger seat with her blankie, a towel, some toys, and some treats. (She wouldn’t take a treat from me earlier, just wanted to cuddle.) She pushed the treats I’d put next to her in the floor (I know I know, what doxie would do that!?)… and then she climbed over the console into my lap. She slept there the whole way home with her little head tucked under my arm. It was adorable!!

It took us a little longer to get back due to traffic, but it wasn’t anything like I expected. I was very thankful for that! We went back to my office and met my hubby there. Again, we tried again to potty unsuccessfully (unless I just missed it, she is pretty low to the ground). We sat in the floor of the office for a while, just cuddling and letting her check things out. She climbed in my husband’s lap right away and wanted some petting. (She’s going to have him wrapped around her little paw in no time!) [picture below from the office meeting]

After grabbing some quick dinner, we were headed home. My hubby took Cooper out to potty before we got here. They were still in the yard when we pulled up. I had him take him around by our basement door (its slightly covered and there is a light there… it was still raining)… Cooper doesn’t go over in that part of the yard much so I thought it was still pretty neutral. I walked her over there on her leash and they checked each other out. Cooper was curious more than anything and she kind of just ignored him! We gave out some treats (she finally took one after Cooper did) and then headed inside. Her main concern was sitting in our laps and sleeping. Cooper kept barking and trying to get her to play, sniffing her out of curiousity… she was still pretty much ignoring him. She wouldn’t eat any of her food last night but did drink a little. Oh, and we had a pottying accident in the floor — I guess she finally had to go!

I had no problems getting her to go in her crate last night and we all slept in this morning. I took Cooper out first and got him in his room eating before I took her out. She did potty a couple of times thank goodness! She still won’t eat anything — I think she is used to free feeding but I can’t leave her food out as Cooper will eat it! She did take a couple of pieces of food out of my hand. I’ll have to read up on her to get her to eat.

So far today she is indulging Cooper a little more. He keeps barking and doing the “play with me” bow. She did play with him for a few minutes after I got in the floor with them. He was very gentle with her while they played tug of war for a few seconds. After that he took a toy and wanted her to chase him… they did that for a few minutes and then she wanted to snuggle again. Off and on she’s getting down and playing with him. She did take a toy and bring it over with her to sit in my lap. It feel in the floor and Cooper tried to get it - she didn’t growl or nip but just kind of lunged at him like, “NO!” He left it alone… I can see that she may be the boss around here before too long!

Cooper is sitting with daddy right now and she’s sitting with me. He hasn’t seemed to be jealous so far. She climbs up in my lap and I let him up here too if he wants. He will climb around my shoulders and keep a safe distance from her, just sniffing here and there. She gave him a kiss one time I think he is a little hyper for her still. Hopefully once she’s rested up and feeling more comfortable, she’ll play with him more. She’s very laid back though… so far she hasn’t barked at all. She’s whined a couple of times if she didn’t like something (mainly that one of us stopped petting her). She was running and playing outside (chasing some leaves) so I can definitely tell she has a playful side.

As usual I think I was freaking out more than necessary about the whole process of picking her up. She’s such a sweet little girl… there was nothing to worry about! She’s very loving and we just adore her! Can’t wait to see how things progress… I’ll post some more pictures in the photo section too since I can only post 1 here it seems.

Christin, Cali, and Cooper … I need to change my HDB name now!! hehe
