need ideas

OK, my Relay for Life team is wanting to put on a dog show to help with our fund raising for this year and we are needing ideas on how to do this no one on the team has ever done any thing like this. And i figured with all of the wonderful people on here that maybe someone would have some ideas. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Well you could make it a “all breed” show and have contests so that the community could get involved with mixed breeds as well. You could also do the serious dog show too if that is what you wanted but if you have some silly contests then others might be more inclined to go and enter. If you charge a fee to enter and a fee to watch, then you could also go to area businesses and ask for donations of gift certificates for prizes or things to do in a basket for a raffle etc.

I suggest a ‘fun’ show instead of a ’serious’ dog show– meaning instead of an all-breed show where you will need judges, points, ribbons etc, you can have a quirky fun one with various categories. Like Best in Costume, or Dog and Owner Look-a-likes, Funniest Barker, etc. You’ll have a lot more people who’ll want to join in because their furkids will have a chance to win something funny

Tonda - i agree that you start with a dog show for fun. We are planning ours for the Fall. What you want to do RIGHT AWAY, is to try to find a sponser company like Purina… They will want a written proposal and all the costs, so include things like rental of the show property, insurance, rental of fences / bleachers… advertising, prizes, decorations, refreshments for the humans…
We are going to try to do ours on 10/4/08 - that is St. Francis of Assisi Day and we will be doing a Blessing of the Animals along with the fun stuff. Would be glad to share info as we go along, so feel free to PM me! Hugs, ruth and Daisy Mae
