Morals…
Well guys and girls and doxies of all ages, do I have a story for you…
Today around 2 pm this little boy comes a’knockin at my door, hes the neighbors kid, though I dont know them very well as they havnt lived there long, he says somthing along the lines of “Do you want my dog?” i was like uh, honny no, I have four dogs already I cant take any more in! SO he left…minutes later he is at the door again, “if you dont take him my dads going to shoot him” WHAT?! I said go get your mom sweety, and he did, well she says yea, her husband is on his way to get a gun to shoot this dog….ok so yea I’ll take him, what I’ll do w/ him I dunno, but ok. So i get the dog, asked her where she got him, she said someone had dropped him off…whatever I have the dog now right? Hes in safe hands. A very scared, but sweet lab mix pup of about 3/4 months. I made a call and a friend of mine says she will take him in. So shes on her way down here from punxutawny pa, about and hour away, gets here with her firend and her two kids..so I said hang out a while and we’ll talk whatever. First thing we did was go over to ask for a shot record, which the woman had said he had all his shots, she says she doesnt have one. So i asked wehre she took him to, she tells me and its my vet as well, so i’m like just give me your name and I will have them transfer his records, she says “i dont know what name its under” HUH?! SO i said what shots did he get? she doesnt know, but the vet said he is good for two years, and the guy who had him before her (I THOUGHT HE WAS DROPPED OFF?) had his shots done too. Ugh, i’m no idiot, I know that puppies need a three series of shots and then have to return after ONE year for a rabies booster. C’mon now woman I HAVE FOUR DOGS!!!!! But we left and my friend is just ogin to take him for shots again to be on the safe side.
So a few hours later we’re just hanging out, and a knock at the door again, its the little boy AGAIN…he asks for the dog back…..I froze…all i could think to say is “can i talk to your mom again” and he says shes in the shower, so i said let me talk to her when she gets out. So he leaves and comes back a few minutes later, his mom just told him to tell me they want the dog back, supposedly a cousin wanted him….well here comes my moral issue. I lied….i said my friend had already left and had taken the pup to someone else. So he left again, we hid the dog in case someone came back and eventually smuggled him out the back door into her car and they left. What else could I do right? I couldn’t in good faith give this pup back to someone who had just been threatening his life right? I feel like i did the right thing, i think. I also intend that if they do come back again that I will say that my friend works for the ASPCA and once a threat like shooting a dog is made they aren’t legally allowed to return the dog. I don’t know, I think I know in my heart that I did what is best for the dog, I just hate lying to a child you know? Any ways with the story being so messed up, I just had bad feelings about it.
So I’m sorry for this ramble, but I had to share my story with someone….someone who might understand my logic behind the matter….Thanks for listening!

You did the right thing. You did a brave and good thing. I honestly cannot believe people! What is wrong with them???

I would have done the same thing. I dont care if it was a family member who wanted the pup, the dude was going to SHOOT a puppy!!!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! they didnt have that pup vaccinated. Or they would at least be able to give you the info you need, and besides they lied to you and said that it was dumped then said they knew it was vaccined before they got it. I think you are ok and should give a little pat on the back for taking this pup and making sure he is taken care of!!The good for sure out weighed the bad!

I would have done the same thing. If the dog was threatened today, he would have been threatened tomorrow.
You most likely saved this dog from abuse. At the point that these people talked about killing this pup, it’s all over. They don’t deserve anymore consideration. Instead, just be thankful that the little boy chose your door.

I deal with this everyday. “Dog is going to get a bullet to the head…..etc etc etc. I’m gonna drown him off in the river” “Turn him loose so the coyotes eat”… Makes me angry every breath I take…. as much as I hate to say this, don’t give the dog back, but on the other hand it is sometimes cruel to be kind. Euthanizing is way better than a 4 inch chain starving and being kicked by a heathen that has no morals. Big dogs can live 14 years or more.
Burn in hell stupid hillbilly neighbors the world is full of your stupid offspring and I don’t mean your doggies.

Thankfully you have friends….hit the post button before I finished my rant.

Thank you guys for your positivity, I know that I did right by the dog. You know, from my parents i hear the same thing over and over, “your life is going to the dogs, you cant save them all” and maybe I cant, but I can save a few, and to those few i’m sure it means the world

You did the right thing. And you are right, it means everything to those you can help. Bless you for that!

We see dogs legitimately dumped in the park ALL the time. It is heart-breaking to see young pups, senior citizens, and dogs who have outgrown the apartment.
I think when judgement day comes for you, Saint Francis will stand by your side at the Pearly Gates.
You did the right thing for the dog who didn’t have a say in the matter AT ALL.
I also fear for the woman and her child because their lives can’t be all that tranquil either!
AS for “going to the dogs” I offer this quote …
Her life was okay. Sometimes she wished she were sleeping with the right man instead of with her dog, but she never felt she was sleeping with the wrong dog.” ~ Change of Life by Judith Collas

I know you feel bad…as I would, but the puppy is one thing…what about that poor child?? I really feel sorry for him and what must be a stressful home life.
I work for DSS and I would have contacted someone about this….maybe they could have done an investigation at the home. If his father threatens to shoot his puppy, he probably makes other threats!
I am glad you took the pup though. I would have too!

Including my input…No creature loved by humans deserves to have a bullet put to his head! Especially not an innocent puppy! That’s downright animal cruelty!
That little kid was only a pawn for what his evil ambivalent parents were telling him.
It’s sad that anyone can have kids or animals and treat them as they please.
I agree with the rest of the people on here, DON’T feel sorry for what you did; it was truly a righteous act!

Anyone who would even think about shooting an innocent puppy does not deserve to have a pet, or a child for that matter.
Do not lose one second of sleep thinking you were wrong for lying to them about where the puppy went.
You saved an innocent animals life who could not speak for himself.
I agree with Tia, thankfully they chose your door to knock on.
This puppy can now spend the rest of his life in a happy, loving and SAFE home!!
Spanky - you hit the nail on the head!!
And Laura - I LOVE your quote!!

My life went to “the dogs” a long time ago and I have been truly happy every since. And your parents are right, you can not save them all but if you can save just one, you are a much better person for it and that is one less abused animal in this world. Job well done!
April 9, 2008 @ 11:36 am
Well people may say that you can’t save them all, but this little one came to you special delivery. Everything for a reason as I always say, and you did absolutely the right thing! He came to you because he needed you to do this right thing for him, otherwise he would have never found his way to you to begin with! Great Job!!!

Shoot, I wouldn’t lose a minute’s sleep over it. They are lucky you didn’t call animal rescue on them. (And people have the nerve to ask me why I only donate $ to animal rescue/causes organizations.)

You did the right thing. Just think If you did give him back and then you later found out that he had been shot. My Boogey was unwanted I thank God that he was given to me. People can be so heartless and cruel!!!! My friend has a mama dog and her puppies living under the vacant house next to her house, she feeds them. She has called the animal shelter several times to come for them and they never do, the mama dog growls at her so she leaves the food close by. Also another friend of mine told me her neighbors moved away and left their poor dog behind to fend for himself. I really don’t understand it and it makes me so mad!!!!!!
