2 yr hikes leg and pees all over himself

I have a 2 yr old named JoJo who we’ve had since he was 8 weeks. He has been housetrained since he was a wee puppy, however we still have peeing issues! Since i’m a stay at home mom, he gets out frequently thru out the day, yet he always pees on a throw rug at botton of stairs. We have had the carpets cleaned, replaced the throw rug, yet he continues to pee onit. The biggest problem we have is with his rolling over and peeing all over himself, doesn’t matter if he’s inside or outside when he does this. If we call him and he doesn’t wanna respond, he lays or sits there until you scold him or decide to walk out & get him, then he rolls over and pees. If we call him over and then, lets say you want to put a collar on him, he pees, seems like he does this no matter what, unless you call him for a cookie, then he comes on the run! We also have a 8 yr old doxie, and seeing we have no children at home, i’d say they are very spoiled. My dad dogsits for us if we go anywhere for a day or so and upon picking the dogs up today after 2 days, my dad told me DON’T bring that one back! He lets him out, JoJo leaves the yard, won’t come when called, and when he does, makes it inside backporch and rolls over and pees. We can be sitting there watching TV, talk to him and he’ll hike his leg, making it where you decide not to talk to him as you know he’s gonna pee! It has become very frustrating, my husband gets angry and i defend JoJo, even though I’m also mad at his actions. Anyone have any ideas as to how i can get him to stop raising that leg??

  1. Comment by Baxters Mom:

It seems some of it stems from him submissive peeing when he is scolded.

I would suggest you look up a dog trainer in your area who can come and observe how JoJo acts under certain circumstances and give you some training tips to help you stop his peeing.

In the meantime I would try to take him outside as soon as you see him go down on his back and then give him lots of praise and a reward when he goes pee outside and not in the house.
He will learn that if he goes outside, then he will get praise and a reward.

You also stated that he leaves your dad’s yard and won’t come when called.
Is he letting him out in an unfenced yard?
This can be very dangerous for any dog, and especially for a dog that is not trained in the come command or a doxie that has a very high scent drive.

The more you get angry with him and scold him, the harder it will be to get him to stop submissive peeing.

    Good luck!

    Is he neutered?
They say that if you have a housebreaking problem you have to start all over.
Is he afraid of something? Has the come command ever been used with scolding or hitting or anything not nice. If the come word is used it has to be positive. Never say the word come with something negative. That word has to be good, come and get a cookie, come and get some kisses. Never come and say, what did you do?
You may need to get a blacklight to make sure the area is cleaned. Urine can soak down into the concrete. You will have to use an enzyme product to get rid of the smell.
There can be some pretty complex issues here. Work with a trainer. Be positive and work with him. I would hope this can all be worked out. Love love love
