Two dachshunds or just one??
Tags:Two dachshunds or just one???
I was just wanting others opinions on which is better - owning 2 doxies or just one? We already have a 6 month old female and was considering getting her a buddy. I wanted to see if anyone preferred having 2 to just one? And if you have two- how well do they get along, do they seem to like having a buddy instead of being alone? Also, is it better to pair two females or have a female and male? Any advice would be great!!

Two..or three..or more!! Haha!! I think ours wouldn’t know what to do if they were they only one in our house!! We have 3 babies and they LOOOVEEE each other. When we got Annie, I thought Mia would be much too agressive and try to push her around(Mia is a very spoiled DIVA) but we really wanted another female and were determined to make it work so here we are 5 months later and they are best friends!! Dachsies love having buddies! I would definately get AT LEAST one more:)

I only have one doxie, but I have 2 other dogs( a chi mix and a basset hound)…Abbey loves the other dogs,if they weren’t here I don’t know what she’d do!
We are looking into getting another doxie though, just so Abbey can have a friend that is somewhat like her, energy level wise!

I have two. Gizmo (male, 4 years old) and Franka (female, 2 almost 3 years old).
They love eachother so much. They are always cuddling, licking, running and playing together. They even sleep the same way spread out in my bed.
Makes me not feel too guilty about having them at home when I am in classes or at work.

I have two now and will never just have one again. They are fantastic company for each other. I have a male and a female that are about a year and a half apart in age. (I had heard that this combo was best and it has worked out perfectly.)

I have had Porter for a year and he had fits of anxiety when we would leave him for a few hours. He would chew on the plastic in his crate!! Most of the time he is carted around with me so he hated being by himself. So we decided to get him a buddy. I also wanted to rescue so we got an older female 4 years old. So far so good. They love to be with each other. No problems with destructive behavior now when we leave. Good company. So in my opinion 2 is way better than one. They always have someone to keep them company. The fact that yours is young would help them be bonded even more!!! I dont know what combo is best but I like the male/ female. If you decide on the female male combo and arent going to breed please get them fixed as soon as possible.
Take care and good luck and cant wait to see what you decide.

When Brandy was 10 months old, I got Amy who was 4 1/2 months old. Both females, but they have always gotten along just fine and play together, snuggle together. I don’t think I will ever just have one. They bring me such joy just watching them together. I vote for 2 2 2 2 2!

Oh you have got to have at least two!
Besides being twice as entertaining, they are great playmates for each other!

Definetly 2. Or more. I like the male/female combination. Right now I have Smokey and Anna and they are very closely bonded. If I have to even take one to the vet, the other mopes and howls. They are almost always touching when sitting or laying down. I don’t feel bad about having to leave then during the day because they have each other. Previously I had a pair of long hairs, Waldi and Johann. Yes, I recommend 2. At least.

My 10yr old Dee was an only dog for most of her life, and she loved being an only dog and center of attention. She tolerates the presence of my 2 new ones, but I know she prefers to be alone.
My 2yr old and 6month olds on the other hand can’t live alone. They absolutely need company, hehe. So I guess it would depend on your dog right now, does she like other dogs? Or does she like being an only girl?

Thank you so much for the advice! Sorry it took me so long to respong-my comp was messed up again
I had heard they do better in pairs and I wanted to do what would be better for her- I want my doxie girl happy! She does LOVE playing with other dogs, she is very well socialized and has “playmates” that we take her to visit. I was hoping that since she was still so young adding another would work out well. I also was leaning more toward a male so that there wouldn’t be as much of a dominance issue.
Thanks again for all the advice-I really appreciate and yall are all really nice, I think I am really gonna like it here!!! Stacy

At first I thought one was plenty, I had three other dogs at the time. Then, well.. Why not two? Two’s no problem, but what’s one more. Three is definetly my limit…. Until, Sure why not. So I’m at four doxies and three big dogs, but I have the time and room, so that is somthing to consider.
