We had an after-hours dog party/picnic at work and it was so much fun!
I work at a botanic garden in the Miami area. We normally do not allow dogs (except service ones) in the 83 acre tropical garden. Last Sunday, beginning at 5:00 (the garden closes then) we had a staff/family/bring your dog party! We all had a blast!!!! There were 4 dachshunds…..Amy was the only one that was not grossly overweight. People kept their dogs on leash for the most part. We had grilled hot dogs, marinated skirt steak and staff brought petluck (not potluck) side dishes and desserts. We had beer, wine, and sodas. Part of the garden, called the lowlands, has lakes (11 of them!) A few people let their dogs go for a swim. A great time was had by all! People are still talking about what a fun party it was. We are actually planning a day in September when we are going to allow people to bring their dogs in the garden. We will have the humane society, local rescue groups, possibly agility and obedience demonstrations. I am really looking forward to that! If you happen to be in our area, you should visit. What fun Mary! I love the idea of a PET LUCK! Mind if I steal that idea for myself?
We’re becoming fast friends with our new buddies Mr. Belvedere and his mommy Raquel and summer is the PERFECT time for a petluck picnic.
I wish I could be at the Fairchild Gardens in September - your event should be a great success!

Sounds like you had great fun. Maybe we can persuade Mum to have a BBQ and picnic…. I am sure that we would love that! Anton is SO big, that he can steal food off the table when he stands on his back legs…. now there is a brother worth having!!!!!
Our Mum will be staying with Uncle Chuck in June, when she finally crosses the Pond on her Big Trip. Maybe she can get to meet you and B & A?

Laura, actually I posted this blog to give others an idea. It was such a morale booster for our staff. Instead of standing around with a drink in hand, trying to make small talk with people you see every day anyway, we had our dogs to meet and talk about and show off! My Amy is pretty shy and had her tail tucked under her rear end for much of the party but she did get more comfortable as time wore on and she really enjoyed walking in a completely new area. We could spread out and venture through the rainforest and down by the lakes. Next time I will take Brandy and show her off!
