Results of the Auction / Humane Society
Hi guys. Thanks for the well wishes on the auction. Despite rain and space being a MAJOR problem, we had a successful auction. My secret goal was to make enough money to pay the bills for the big horse rescues in 2007 - and WE DID ! We cleared over $5000. People got some MAJOR bargains on a lot of stuff - we could have made a lot more if the set-up had been better, but watch out - next year we will REALLY kick butt!
I originally joined our Humane Society when the story broke about how the local dog pound operated. The dogs would be thrown alive in a pit with multiple other terrified dogs. They would put the cover over the pit, fire up the TRACTOR, and insert the exhaust hose into the pit. It is still hard for me even to think of that. Luckily, the bad press the county got when the Big City station aired the expose` caused the county to switch to lethal injection. However, the mentality of the Dog Warden and many others in the County remains the same - animals are disposable and often seen as “pests”.
So I guess I am just rambling to say GET INVOLVED ! Like many others, I cannot tolerate seeing the abused / neglected animals. It tears me up. But thats OK cuz there are so many other ways to help! Just me and one other gal did about 90% of the work to put on a Charity Auction for our Humane Society - it was work! - but we will clear over $5000 !!! And we are nobody special, not trained fund-raisers… My next mission - try to get a feral cat spay / neuter program going in one of our smaller (but more open-minded) towns.
Didn’t mean to ramble, just fired up today!
Hugs, Ruth, Daisy Mae, and the beautiful old mutts !!!!!

That is tremendous. I still am shocked at the cruel people that are here in this world. I cannot imagine the person that could do that. One day they may find themselves thrown in a pit for eternity. So sad and sickening. People like you make the world bearable.
Love your Doxies

Congratulations on a job well done Ruth! Now that you’ve had one success under your belts, the next one will be that much easier.
The shelter animals in your corner of Ohio sure have a great angel looking out for their welfare!

Thanks for kind words! I’ll make sure there is dachshund stuff in the next auction! Already have one artist lined up who creates animals through the art of needle felting. Toying with paying to have Daisy Mae’s likeness done.
