You have nothing to be sorry for, as you did not choose or cause yourself to have your illness, no more than anyone chooses to have cancer or any other debilitating disease. It is not your fault. Just concentrate on getting yourself better and surround yourself with those you love and who love you for who you are, like your son, Pibby, Holly, and your family and friends.
