While walking by a clear mountain stream in Germany, my longhaired girl, Waldi, saw a fish,. As the water was perfectly clear she didn't realize it was there. She jumped in after the fish and out again, all in one movement! That water was icy cold! We laughed so hard at the look on her face. But that ended the walk as we got her back to the car and warmth quickly.

Clara, make sure you watch her carefully. I am only saying this because my niece's pug just drowned in their koi pond. Even though it was almost totally fenced, she went up on a little hill and squeezed through. She was almost totally blind, and for some reason she was fascinated with the pond. Very sad.

On a separate note, years ago I had two standard long haired doxie siblings. My husband and I took them to the park where there is a little lake to see the ducks, and neither one had ever seen water like that. They saw the ducks in the water and decided to chase them. I guess they thought they could walk on water. lol Well, we ended up fishing both of them out of the lake with their leashes. It was kind of funny but scary too. Needless to say, they never tried that again. They stuck to the dry land. :)

That sounds so familiar!! My mom's dog did the same thing. They had him for over four months before he finally noticed that there were bright orange things actually "moving" in the water under his nose! He tried one day to capture one of these moving creatures and fell in! Needless to say he doesn't bother my mom's fish anymore-he only goes to the shallow end to get a quick drink :)
