Cocoa Mindy got her teeth cleaned today!!

Mindy got her teeth cleaned today, without annistesia(sp?) Her teeth are so clean now and it only took about fifteen minutes. I went inside and handed her to the lady that did the cleaning, then went out to take Gilmour for a bathroom break(it was an hour and a half drive) After he was done I went back in to see how Mindy was doing and she was done!! I was hoping to see how she did it, but didn’t get a chance. I asked a few questions about tools and some of the tools used were very similer to dental tools we’re used to seeing. I forgot to ask how she kept her mouth open, I can only assume there was some sort of block used. This is only an assumption, but I can’t see how she could get the molars done so well without somthing to assist her. Sorry I didn’t get more info, but I was told it was a forty five minute job, so I thought I had time. Next time I’ll be sure to get there a little early so the dogs can potty before the procedure. I was told that I had done a good job brushing her teeth and the build-up was not bad at all(why it went so quick) She charged $85 for this initial visit and each follow up visit is $20 as long as it’s made with in two months. We’ll see how her teeth are at that point. I don’t have a build-up problem with the other pooches(at least not now), but Mindy has aways had bad breath and plaque, in my opinion. Must be weaker enzymes or somthing. I’m just happy there’s a way to clean her teeth without an expensive vet visit and drugs. Oh, and Mindy was licking the gal and wagging her tail like crazy after the cleaning, so I don’t think it tramatized her at all.

Good news! I had Amy’s teeth cleaned a couple weeks ago without anesthesia and they said she was their best patient of the day! They were able to use a “power” tool on her. It was great to see her alert and happy when I picked her up. A heck of a lot cheaper too!!!! And safer for the dog!

this sounds like a wonderful alternative to the anesthesia. I am so glad she did well with the procedure. thanks for the update!!

That’s good! I’m glad everything went ok!
I have got to take my chi/feist mix to have her teeth done, but she’ll definantly have to have anesthesia, otherwise it may not be good.(She is VERY Grumpy)LOL.Thanks for the info.
