Back Problems????…. Help

Oh, heavens! The thing I have feared the most with Duchess…….

She has been acting strange the past couple of days. I noticed yesterday evening she didn’t wanna go up or down the steps or stand up for us to pick her up.

This evening she is shivering and her tummy is so tight. She is still using the bathroom so I know it’s not that. I phoned the emergency vet and they told me it may be her back.
I am beside myself. I am going to take her to our vet in the morning.
Anyone ever see these symptoms before?

Any help is appreciated…

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. We have never had to deal with this. Sigh! I think it’s worse than when my son would get sick, at least he could tell me.
Keep us in your puppy prayers. I have her beside me on the sofa being very still.

We will be thinking of you and saying lots of puppy prayers. Please update us tomorrow after the vet. Give her some hugs and kisses for us.

We all will be praying for Duchess. None of us want to see our furbabies in pain. Please let us know what your Vet says as soon as you can.

hope all is well with your baby. Please make sure if you can that they check her throughly. The issue with Randolph was the small window of opportunity we had to give a better chance to walk again. right now he fighting for that right with a 5% chance. Make sure the vet checks everything. If that doesn’t make you comfortable, go with your gut and get another opinion. Time is od the essence. Randolph and I will keep our prayers goin for ya. Love to you and your baby!

Everyone, if you start to suspect a back problem with your little one, GET THEM TO THE VET!
    NOW!
DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT STOP. GO STRAIGHT TO THE VET! (yes I am yelling)

Back problems can be treated if they are seen in time, but time is so very important. What was explained to me was that with certain problems if they are treated within 24 hours there can be a 95% chance of full recovery. And for every 24 hours after that the odds would drop in half. Hours count, and they count big.

It is so much better to rush to the vet and let an experienced person decide what is best, from just letting them rest or maybe surgery (or hundreds of other things that could be done). The hours count and you don’t want to find out you made the wrong guess when you could have gone and gotten treatment sooner.

It doesn’t even matter if the problem is serious or not, the sooner any injury is treated the faster it will heal up and everyone is back to normal. Even just a strain will heal up faster the sooner they go on crate rest.

Now for a success story. Our little girl went down in the back a couple years ago. Our first one going down, we didn’t know what was happening just that she was walking funny. We got lucky and our vet saw us on a 1 hour notice, then we got luckier and the vet sent us on a 2 hour rush drive to get her surgery. The success is that in 2 weeks she is going back into the show ring, 100% back to normal.

Since then I have also been involved with others where we were not as lucky in seeing that there was problem soon enough. We really pay close attention now and do not hesitate at all. We have made a few visits to the vet where all that was required was rest, and the feeling of releif is worth the couple of hours it took.

Of course backs are near and dear to me right now. I just had 3 back surgeries in 2 weeks. I am hoping to be back better then new in a little while. It was strange though, everything they told me they were going to do I had to relate to what the vets had told me about my little ones back surgery.

Phillip, you are SO RIGHT!! The vet thinks we caught it just in time that it is treatable with anti inflammatory meds and be right back to normal.

Thanks so much for your input!!!
