Keep a firm tone and if he starts to growl and try to bite, put him firmly, but gently on his back until he realizes that you are in charge and calms down. This worked for me the couple of times Baxter tried to be top dog, and he has now learned to lie down and go on his back when I say a firm NO! when diciplining him.
