Why so poopy?

Hi everybody. Kirby here. I finally started to gain a little weight. My mom made me some really good treats for weight gain that had hamburger and cheese and all kinds of crazy stuff in them and they were YUMMMY. She found the recipe on a doggy cook website. But now I feel kind of yucky and I have to poo all the time so the vet said that I should eat my regular food now and gave me something for my stomach. And I poo’d in the room over the weekend, I felt bad and mom’s boyfriend got mad at me, but I couldn’t help it. :( I don’t understand why I’m so poopy.

It definitely was NOT YOUR FAULT Kirby!
And you should never be punished or yelled at for going poo in the house as that will only make you nervous and afraid.

Any time you change your dog’s food or diet you run a very high chance of them getting dirrhea as their digestive systems are very sensitive and need time to adjust to any new food.

Your vet is the one who knows best for you.
If you need to gain some weight, maybe your mommy can try the puppy formula of your regular food, which has more calories than the adult formula.

But as I noted above, incorporate any new food gradually in small amounts over a 7-10 day period until the tummy has had time to adjust.
If you see that the stool is getting loose, cut back the amount of the new food.

    Good luck Kirby!!

I probably should have mentioned not to make any changes in Kirby’s food (giving him puppy formula) until his tummy and stools are completely back to normal.

I would suggest going to Petsmart or Petco and getting a tube of Nutri-Cal. It should help to put some weight on Kirby without upsetting his digestive system.

I agree that he needs to be on puppy food it has enough of everything a growing puppy needs to grow and mature,it has also got the fibre needed to firm up the stools. Too rich a diet will play havoc with his gut.

Try a spoonful of plain tinned pumpkin in the mean time, that should firm up the stool quickly to prevent dehydration and further weight loss.

See as I been saying hooman’s get mad at the littlest thing, that boyfriend should move out and your mom should get a new one that understand how hard it is for us to open a door and put the seat down,(I bet he leaves the seat up too..lol)
well hope you get better soon.. Buddythedoxie
