Exercise routine thwarted by doxhoonts …

Okay so the reason WHY I decided to get my first doxhoont was to help me establish a healthy exercise routine of walkies in the park. I figured I would either get the exercise walking OR from bending and stretching to clean up after her in the house. Annabel was the best little walking partner and it worked like a charm.

Lately, I’ve fallen waaaaay off the wagon. Since last week I’ve had the company of Sweet Miss Vivan for morning walks and have been pretty motivated to get back in the swing of things. This morning we got up extra early and I decided to take only Annabel for the walk. She is a good walker and has the most stamina of the three (it was going to be a two mile walk.)

Harnessed up, the boys followed us out of the house. Rather than take a moment to put them back in, I noticed that Uncle Bob was nearly over here for morning doggie play so I decided it would be o.k. to leave them out in the yard (fully fenced I should add.)

HAA HAA HAAAA! We weren’t more than 100 yards from the gate when Freddie galloped up to us. I turned around and Brownie was hot on his heels. I tucked a boy under each arm and walked them back telling Sweet Miss Vivian to continue on with Annabel. HAA HAA HAAAAAA! Annabel was not to have it either and sat on the pavement refusing to move an inch. Vivian walked Annabel back to me and I sent her off without me. She did 3 laps of the Parade Ground (nearly 6 miles) and I sat on my fat butt. Of course Brownie disappeared so I had to go find him, then Freddie chose to hide on me too. I did end up getting my exercise but NOT in the way I intended.

Once Freddie is a bit older I am going to have to learn how to walk 3 doxhoonts at the same time. Wish me luck!

Why mommy doesn’t like to take me for MORNING walks …. I’m not a morning doggie boy!

Great story, cute pic! I walk mine one at a time. There are too many loose dogs and kids who won’t listen when I tell them Mica does not want to be petted to take them out together. I never know when I will have to pick one up and go the other way.

Walking 3 is no mean feit, I have the girls on a coupler and extending lead and Rhuari on his own on another extending lead, that balances the weight, it is fine till someone does their business and I have to hold both leads in one hand, get a bag out of the pouch, clean up and find a bin to dispose of the evidence.

So mostly I walk one leaving 2 behind, I don’t like leaving one alone at home if I can avoid it.

Good Luck with the exercise and getting fit.

Sometimes I think your lil doxhoonts think they are too FAB to exercise…what about you?

  6. Comment by Lisa/Chester/Maddie:

Oh Freddie, I just love you!! You are growing up way too fast though! I can’t imagine trying to walk three together - I can’t even do that with two!
