I took Lady in this morning for her boosters. I informed them that her sister Meadow had had a reaction so they gave her a shot of Benydryl just to be safe. Well she checked out perfect and they gave her the boosters. They handed her to me and i cuddled and loved on her, she didnt even whimper with her shots. Well the vet told me all was well and that we could go get checked out and walked out of the room. Well Lady started to whine really bad and then just started pooping. Then her head flopped backwards and she couldnt open her eyes, i yelled at the vet and she came running lifted her little lips and her gums were blue. So they rushed her to the back. They got her on oxygen, catheter, and IV fluids. She was completly out of it. The vet told me that if they hadnt given her the benydryl she most likely wouldnt have made it. So here i sit at home beside myself waiting for them to call. I am so worried. She is so tiny and such a good girl. The tech said she will most likely be exempt from future vaccines since this reaction was so bad. So please pray for her. I will update when i know anything.

I am so sorry! I’m sure Lady will be fine! Prayers are being sent your way. I have had this type of reaction with several of my dogs (Always Rabies, but Emma the Bassett has now reacted badly to everything). I STRONGLY recommend that everyone should check their dogs’ gums before leaving the vet and frequently afterwards. White, blue or grey gums are usually (not always) the first sign of a serious reaction.

OMG, that is so scary. I am so glad you were able to get her help right away. She is definitely in our prayers. This only further convinces me to get titer tests for my little guys instead of the automatic booster. Thanks for the recommendation, Cindy.

Prayers are going out for your sweet Lady Kendra that she will get over this and be ok.

This is such a scary thing to hear about.
These vaccination reactions seem to be happening more and more.

Do you think there are bad batches of vaccine out there?

I am going to watch my Baxter like a hawk the next time he has to go for his boosters!

I am sorry I did not post sooner Kendra. I just saw this post because it has gotten pushed down by all of the spam. I hope your little girl is out of the woods. That is such a scary thing to happen to a little one. We are waiting to hear how she is doing!

I wonder why so many reactions? I am hearing it almost constantly. 3 out of my last litter had bad reactions also.

You are all in our prayers. One of my babes was also allergic to vaccines, and was exempt from all. I simply kept her on lead at all times, and I didn’t even leave her on the patio without me. She didn’t mind, however, as being the little star meant the world to her!
