My little Zeus is sick

Hi everyone

I hope someone can help me…about a week ago my husband was playing with our miniture guy, zeus, and I really hope this is just coincidence.. anyway he tends to squeeze him a bit and it often worries me as zeus is so small. a few days later Zeus began gasping for air, not continuously but if he runs around (which he loves to do) he will suddenly stop his mouth jerks back and he is gasping for air, it lasts about 3 seconds, ( too long) and scares me to death. We just moved to Baltimore about a year ago I don’t know if he got into something, we go to the dog park everyday and he runs through the grass, trees and bushes…he is eating well and seems to have a lot of energy but if he runs to much he just gasps for air. Does anyone have any ideas? I am going to central PA in a week or so and if he is not better I plan on taking him to our vet there..
thank you so much!
Annie

Well I would go to the vet to double check to make sure it’s nothing serious. Now one thing it might be…you meantioned grass, etc, is “backwards sneezing”. It sounds as if they are gasping for air and are intaking pretty hard but it’s just their way of “sneezing several times” in a row. The backwards is because the intake air instead of a sudden burst outwart like us. It caused by irrates that get in the nose passage. Now, like I said before…have the vet check it out to make sure. I did. It was worth the piece of mind.

Hmmm do dogs get Asthma? I would ask the vet as well, just to make sure.

“backwards sneezing” is also what my vet said when our big guy started doing this. It seems more distressing for them than it is. Probably allergies. But I would take him in just to be sure:)

What about Collapsed Trachea. I know it can be common in small breeds. I remember my Ali doing some strange, scary type of breathing as a puppy. Scared me so much. She outgrew it. Vet never saw it so could only speculate and we never knew.
