Hello all,
I need advice on my 1 yo male. He is scared to death of storms or even just rain. I was wondering if any one elses Doxies have the same problem. Andy advice would be greatly appreciated since it is supposed to storm here fro the next 2 days.

My mom once had a Wirehair Fox Terrier that would sqeeze himself into a tiny space between the washer and dryer whenever there was a thunderstorm.
Baxter gets a bit anxious when he hears thunder, so I try to keep him calm and distracted when a storm is happening.
He feeds on me so even though I don’t like thundertorms either, I try not to act scared or nervous. I found that when I am calm and ok, he is much better too.
I hope this helps!

We had a shepard mix once that we had to medicate when a storm was coming because he was so scared.
We would also turn on a radio on a “talk” station if we were going to be gone during the storm.
My mom had a basset she would sing to and that would calm him down during a storm. We have had to bring Mica and Izzy into the bed with us during storms at night but they are ok during the day.

My mother in law has to medicate her dog during a storm. If the news has said that bad weather is coming she will medicate him before the storm comes.

LOL Buddy! Duchess wasn’t afraid of storms but when I said bath time she looked so helpless and frightened.
I am so glad she was one who wasn’t afraid of the storms. My parents had Chihuahuas who were terrified of even a tiny storm. It was pitiful.

I agree with Bette you definately should stay calm during the storm. Distracting him could maybe also work.
I don’t have experience with a dog who is afraid of storms myself, but I am involved with TTouch and heard many stories of dogs who are afraid of storms and TTouch helped them.
Basically it will involve wrapping your dog in what is called a body wrap or if you don’t have one using a T-shirt that fits snug around your dog and then doing some relaxing touches on his ears and whole body to relax him.
