Not sure where to put this so I’m trying here. I have a male short hair red and a female long hair red dapple that are both 2 years old that I can no longer keep. They are both fixed and potty trained. they are very loving dogs however 8 months ago I had a baby and the dogs just haven’t adjusted. They are not good with children. The last few weeks they have been outside and it is going to start getting cold. I do not want them to suffer and I don’t want to take them to the shelter. My husband said they had to go after they nipped the baby. 8 Months is a long time to adjust and they just don’t seem to be getting better. I live in North Central Missouri and would love to see them go to someone who would love them as much as I have. If anyone can help, please email me at Tarawhitis@yahoo.com Thanks for reading this.

I am so sorry things are working out with your pups and your baby. See if you can find a Dachshund Rescue Group in your area. By surrendering your pups to them they will make sure they find a good, suitable home for both of them. You will find rescue groups in the link below. Good Luck.

Hi……I too am very sorry for the situation you are in, I suggest placing a local ad, screen your potential buyer, or even offer the dogs free to good home….spend time with each person who seems interested…you will find the right people to love your dogs as much as you do….so many times people want dachshunds, but financially cannot afford them…..many times people want older, trained dachshunds to fill a void in their lives…if you want to keep them together, advertise it that way…I guarantee you will find perfect forever homes for your little ones. In your ad specify you request a home with no children..whoever you decide to sell or give your dogs to will become your new friends…they will be local and you probably could even visit them from time to time…..give it a try, if you have no luck, then try the rescue as Dooozie suggested…..its a great link, glad you posted it Dooozie, I bookmarked it for my files. Best Wishes, and keep us posted on what happens next. Linda M.

Being involved in dachshund rescue for many years I can safely say that putting a add in the paper and offering dogs for free or cheap is a very dangerous thing to do these days. Screening homes to ensure your dogs get a good homes involves more then asking folks a few questions. You can request anything you want but unless you do a home visit, check their vet reference to make sure they care properly for their current pets or the pass ones you have nothing to go on if it really is a good home and the right home for your dogs. Newspaper adds and things like Craig List are finding that people are getting the free & cheap dogs listed and telling folks anything they want to hear and then turning around and re-selling pure breeds for a sum of money to who ever shows up with cash. There are bunchers out there especially in the south who look for free or cheap dogs and then turn around and sell them to Class B Dealers who then sell them to the research labs. The below link will explain what a buncher is and does. Then there are the hoarders who collect free animals and the out come is never pretty. If people can’t financially afford a dog then they shouldn’t have one let alone 2 and currently due to state of the nation it is now the number one reason why dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, you name it are entering shelters and rescues because people can’t afford to feed them and care for them. Some have lost their homes and jobs and have no housing for their animals. Others are looking for any way possible to cut back to make it month to month.

Contact a rescue group and MO has plenty being the puppymill capital, if you want to surrender your dogs to a rescue group you can go that route or you can get excellent advise and tips on how to find them a home yourself using some of methods that rescue groups use. Rescue is all about helping people along with the animals.

I agree w/earthdogs. Give them to a rescue group. I wouldn’t offer my dogs free in a newspaper. I found a Jack Russell Terrier. I knew I couldn’t keep her and I didn’t want to take her to the pound. So I got on line and found a rescue group in my area. A really nice older couple adopted her. And the girl from the rescue group stayed in touch w/me and let me know how she was doing, and when she got adopted. It really made me feel good to know that she went to a couple who had been looking to rescue an animal.
