What a nasty thing to happen to her. Certainly hope she's one of the lucky ones. However, I heartily concur -- take her to another vet for a second opinion. (Sorry, Dee, I know you hate vets, but they can be VERY helpful!) Check your area. If at all possible, take her to a university veterinary clinic or hospital. Those vets have a wider base of animals to draw on and tons of experience -- they might know of newer (or experimental) treatments that could significantly benefit Dee. And don't give up! Although Dee is 13 years old, our doxie Tuulikki made it to 17! And if your second opinion vet agrees with your first, make her as comfortable as possible and enjoy her for however long you both might have. I would get a second opinion. The main thing hun I believe is, if you've been fortunate enough to have her 11 sweet, loving years; If I had no choice but to take your vets advice and leave well alone, I would do that and continue to give her as much love possiable. My dad's tea cup chiuaiua has a mammery tumor that cont to grow & the vet does not want to put her under anesthisa because of her age of 13 years. It sounds cruel to watch this tumor grow & wonder if she's in any pain ect., but you know that lil thing runs & plays as usual & enjoys life as normal as she can; so why would we want to put her down? My dad would indeed make that horable dicision if we saw any signs of pain or distress. My prayers are with Dee & you.
