yesterday Tyrone was in the backyard with the kid’s and all of a sudden i hear screams of bloody murder from my daughter Tyrone got a baby bird. So i come running out and i see him running threw the yard holding the bird in his mouth. i finally after quite a fight get the baby bird and place it out of his reach. He runs back to where he found it looking for another. What in the world i can’t belive him. He was very proud about his big ketch. Anyone else have this happen?

Sounds like Tyrone is going to be a hunter! I can imagine how proud he must have been!

Oh yeah…I’ve had this happen…they are lil’ mighty critter hunters…some have more of a drive then others, but they are part of the hound family afterall.

    Hi All,

They are hunters for sure! Also they really are not hounds they are Terriers. The designator Terrier is for a go to ground, or in ground (read dens and tunnels) hunter. The Dachshund has been mistakenly understood as a hound because of the “hund designator in their name, however that simply means dog in German. The name Dachshund means literally means Badger-dog. The standard size are intended to go into dens and hunt and fight badgers, the mini’s are rabbit dogs, they will pursue their prey in and down their dens. They are relentless once they are in pursuit mode. They are sharp dogs with keen sight, noses and ears. They are also very smart. Their breed standard also reflects the badger hunting as it describes them as courageous almost to a fault. They have large chests to housse their very large lungs. This allows them to breath in enouhg of the stagnant air in tunnels to maintain their energy level, and enhance their endurance.

In the peace of the LORD…..preachp

well the next day he got another bird so now i have removed the bird feeders to discourage the birds from coming to our house.

Ivan prefers his birds dead. They move too fast for him

  7. Comment by Harry:

My baby brother Otto has killed a pigeon all on his own. Impressive, don’t you think?

Tazo, our long haired miniature, loves to catch flies. I’m not sure she knows the difference between bees and flies. The other day she picked up a sting on her face and swelled up around the eyes.
